What are your thoughts on being CREATIVE? Definitions of creative (adj) cre·a·tive [ kree áytiv ] able to create: able to create things new and original: using or showing use of the imagination to create new ideas or things resourceful: making imaginative use of the limited resources available I think every quilter on this board, whether they follow anothers pattern or not, fits this. Rarely do we pick the same colors, everyone adds a little of themselves to each quilt. Ten people can make the same quilt and it will look 10 ways different. We are all resourceful. Tell hubby he definitely has it backwards. :lol: :lol: :lol: |
Ask your husband if he wants a kick in the butt the right way or the wrong way. Creativity is what makes us individuals. I create all the time, when I sew, crochet, quilt, even when I drive. Always looking for another way home so I can see new territory. Now, if that is not creative, I don't know what it is or is that someone elses plan? Let me know what your think.

Being creative means just that,to create, not to copy.To create is far more fulfilling, although not possible for all of us.Even if you only follow someone elses pattern though, you use your own fabric and quilting choice, therefore everything you produce is unique.Just you carry on being just that,Im sure your husband wouldn't want a clone. Lots of love, Letty

The person who CREATES the pattern is the creative one, the one who follows the pattern exactly is following the a pattern already created.

Last night my DH showed me a model railroad part he changed from the original to fit a friends layout. I couldn't resist and said "What you did was creative." Oh, no, never! He is still sticking by his original thoughts (over 65 years in the same brain) and said what he did was to adapt!!!!!!!

Creative= according to Webster's
Creating or able to create. Inventive. Stimulating the imagination. Nothing there about copying something. |
Now that makes you an ARTIST!

What are your thoughts on being CREATIVE? Being creative is of course originally creating something completely from scratch with your own imagination - sewing, cooking, art, etc. Following instructions letter by letter is good (a good many of us do this) but you are then following someone else's creativity. But of course when quilting, we can be very creative and original even when following a pattern, by our own fabric choices. You are showing your own creativity by adding your own twist on things. |
I think creative is doing your own thing. Otherwise you're just following the leader
