Lots of good ideas and links here. One thing that I do and it's not mentioned here, I think, is find and keep pictures out of catalogs (Keepsake Quilting catalog is the best for that). I usually don't use a pattern anyway and, while there might be only one quilt I find stunning, in a catalog, over the years I have acquired a stack of pictures. Also, I've bookmarked on QB a lot of sensational quilts. I have a tendency to buy the fabric first and then find what I want to use it for; of course, I often have to buy more fabric to add to what I have.

Have you looked at any of Eleanor Burns patterns? I actually have a few of your fabrics and I also love that romantic flowery look in quilts and have used some of her patterns to make them. Good Luck.

I see a sampler quilt with your fabrics. Start looking through your quilt books and pick out your favorite blocks. You will be able to use all the fabrics, but maybe not in the same blocks. But it will add a lot of interest and look beautiful. |

I agree, it is so much easier to choose the pattern first. But I really liked this fabric and was SURE I would have no trouble picking out a pattern. Ha.
ManiacQuilter: I just took a look at some Bargello patterns, but I tend to be more of a traditionalist. But they are pretty! OR - (and I do not have the pattern for this as it is a very old quilt hand pieced and hand quilted by my Grandmother ) you could draft the pattern up for this block (simple half-square triangles, rectangles) and use an unbleached muslin type color for the light......(am trying to upload the photos so you can see this block).. |
Shorebird, I love Dresden Plates and would be beautiful with her fabrics. Your Grandmother's quilt is London Roads and it's a wonderful old scrap pattern. What a treasure you have!

Do we ever find the correct combination. Look when you go on a course we all do the same pattern but our individual selection of fabric. I always think mine is a terrible combination and everyone else's is beautiful. What about you? So choose for yourself.sometimes it can be reversed somebody else picks fabrics and you hate the mixture with your pattern.

I bought some fabric ga few years ago and I think it took 2 or 3 years of keeping it in mind every time I looked in a store, at a website, on this board before I found a pattern I liked! Keep the faith! It'll come to you! This is what I did:
