Here is closeups. I love the gold outlineing in some of these fabrics. Any block or quilt ideas would help with this one. I only plan to use just what fabric is here, so it won't get out of hand. The dragon is 72" X 87" I had to add posterboard to the top sides to get the white border frame to stand out.

Thanks for the advice, I don't think I could move this big quilt enough to do anything that would need to be anything other than meandering...

I'll do that. The fabrics on the left side are only (fat quarters) I picked up a few geshias to. Do you think they would work into this new one?

Thanks to all that has kept an eye one me through this first quilt.

Ray..

This one is nice...But I don't think is has the shine like the others

I was thinking this could be the center and as the fish came to the foreground they would get bigger with the fabrics

the repeat on this one is close

Hey!!! If I could get off of this keyboard and on to my sewing I might just do that

Eddie 04-30-2010 08:25 PM

I really like the geisha fabrics, those would look great with the koi fabrics.

Think you can whip up some kind of magic, and point me in a direction that won't waste fabric. all of this is just so great looking "I don't know what to DOOOOOOO!"

Eddie 04-30-2010 08:39 PM

How large is the print on those geisha fabrics? Can you lay a ruler across them so we can get a sense of scale?

No hurry... I still have the dragon to finish first... Don't want any UFOs on my hands. So everybody can just think on it for now.

Thank you all.

Ray..

Eddie 04-30-2010 08:54 PM

Wow, those are really nice sizes! I didn't realize they were that large. Will be interesting to see what you can do with them!

amma 04-30-2010 09:33 PM

ONT I think you are destined to make large quilts LMBO
I really like that first geisha fabric, the other one isn't as vibrant, I don't think it would blend in with the other fabrics as nicely. This is going to be another outstanding quilt!!! :D:D:D

Yeah, I think so too. Looks great on the light blue I have it on also, but your black ones would have looked better. Love what you're going to do next, color-wise(I know, bad English). Any idea? There is a guy named Charlie, in Florence, and he does fantastic things with the Asian prints. Seems to help that his wife owns one of the local quilt shops. What ever it is I'm sure it'll turn out great. Are you now officially hooked on art quilts".

BKinCO 05-01-2010 05:13 AM

C'mon :) Think you're all special or something???? You should join the rest of us that have a whole stack of UFOs.....But, yeah, we want to see the dragon done too........just not enough time in the day!!!!

Kind of like getting used to putting on the number of the new year on your checks.
Right???

BKinCO 05-01-2010 05:57 PM

Look, I've been married almost 22 years.....just recently I signed a check with my maiden name. WTH??? I have no idea where that came from..........so, yes, the new year and time change completely mess with my head! :)

BTW the size of this thing is 72" tall and 87" wide.
Maybe I went a little overboard for the first one,,,,
BUT it's to late now.
The more I look at it..........I can say I realy like it.....
Thanks to all of you that hepled me do this.
I don't think it will be my last.........

I just wanted to let you know that DH and I both love your Asian Dragon quilt. The flowers really make the quilt pop, at least to me. Are the flowers cotton? They look somewhat like wool or felt.

The flowers are made out of some leftover felt from a small design board I made (c pics). I have completed quilting the dragon square, with all of thoes swerilly Qs. WEW! When I did the dragon it was alot smaller than it is now. It is quite heaver that then. makes it hard for me to move it around as easy as the smaller pieces I've done.

center square done

A few more pictures. can see the loftyness of the double thickness of cotton batting under the dragon. and the way the flowers stick out from the background.

BKinCO 05-02-2010 05:16 PM

OK, well that settles it. I will send you all of my future quilts and you can do the quilting, k? Thanks!

Don't send them. Bring them. that way we can meet and talk quilts the whole time it takes me to do it. This typing is alot harder than talking, not to mention the spelling..... I've been thinking about getting a software program that I talk into a mic and it types it out for me. After all I am consitered handicapped. I got the paper to take to DMV to get a crip plate, from the Dr. Waven't got it yet. Hey! that way I could be on here and sew at the same time.... YA! that's it. multitasking that's the ticket.

BKinCO 05-02-2010 05:40 PM

OK well that means I better get a few done first..... and if you were on here AND quilting at the same time you'd never get anything else done. Ever. Wait. That's not necessarily a bad thing....

kwiltkrazy 05-02-2010 06:04 PM

WOW!!! Look spectacular. Are the flowers just batting? Do you puddle your quilt or roll it when you quilt? I always puddle it and seems to help deal with the weight.

Eddie 05-02-2010 06:24 PM

I really like the dimensional look of the flowers and dragon. And the swirly quilting in the background was the perfect choice. This is really looking cool.

OLDNTATTED 05-02-2010 07:17 PM

I tryed to roll it up with the round plastic things, but that was a washout. So it is kind of a rolled up puddle at this time. I'm getting the walking foot on next to do the streaght line work. Then I will go back to the FM foot to do the big borders on the outside of the quilt. That might be a little easier, not having so much between the needle and machine. Thanks for all of the great encourgement.

Ray..

OLDNTATTED 05-02-2010 07:25 PM

The flowers are felt off the bolt. (leftovers of a design board). I hope they hold up, I don't plan on washing this big thing to many times.

OLDNTATTED 05-02-2010 07:29 PM

To tell the truth... I hav'nt got much of the carpet shampooed at this point. with all of the great people on here, I know the floor will be there when I get to it, you guys won't be... right??? Somebody back me up here.

Yep!!! If you don't keep in constant contact with us and your sewing machine...we will ALL disappear...wither up and blow away :( LMBO

Love your quilting!!! Right On
I can't roll mine either... they have to be scrunched, munched, and bunched :lol::lol:

tigger5464 05-02-2010 08:09 PM

WOW!!!!...I just finished going thru you thread here and all I can say is WOW!!! My next thought is that "I hope that DS#2 doesn't see this quilt" He would absolutely fall in love with it an want mom to do one like it....I'm not that talented and "partially" disabled right now. :D Please keep the pics coming :D

kwiltkrazy 05-02-2010 09:36 PM

My son's girlfriend loves working with felt, pillows and such, and they hold up really well, even after repeated washings.

BKinCO 05-03-2010 05:36 AM

Shampooing carpets??? Why bother? They're just going to get messed up again ;)

We are all much more important than a clean carpet....

Maybe if I just rippppped it out.
That would take care of it.
Does carpet grow back, after a while?
CUZ I hope it grows back in a darker color.

I took apart the shampooer so now I can't do it anyway.
It's great to have tools...

Then moved it all back in this morning...That's a weeks work anyway. now back to the quilt. here is what's done so far today. half of the frame of the dragon.
