try Sharon Schamber's method of basting & layering. I did & find it so much easier & faster. and no pins to take out. her you-tube video explains it really well. 14yr GD did it for her
first quilting ever--no puckers at all. used serpentine stitch.
you just have to think of where your quilting lines are going
to go so not as many basting stitches are in your way. but--if
they are, a quick snip & they are out of your way. I just did
3 quilts that have been sitting waiting for the quilting.

Matching up corners -- or trying to get the backing to lay flat when making a sandwich. I can't see under there! LOL

My least favorite part is putting the quilt in the frame. It is awkward to pin all the layers to the leaders and enders.
I don't mind the binding, as others have said when that is done the quilt is FINISHED. And besides, for me hand work is relaxing!

I hate marking a quilt design. I've tried everything, I'm just not good at it and never happy with the results.

Binding by hand. I don't like the way my hand stitching looks and I fear it will pull out or break. I have been machine quilting the binding and I don't think they look too bad. I usually use a pattern stitch from my machine. I used to hate where the binding comes together but there is a video on Utube that makes it a piece of cake.

I don't especially like sandwiching the quilt. I love making the tops, and I like machine quilting them, but there's just something about having to put the three layers together, that makes me procrastinate doing that part of the quilt. Part of it may be that I don't really have a lot of space to spread the quilt out in the apt., as I need to sit to do this because of my back problems. There - now I have "gritched" about what I hate doing in a craft that I dearly love and don't really want to do anything else.

I used to hate the sandwitching part just as much as binding... then came spray basting!

Lori - you read my mind. This is exactly how I feel! I found a tute for binding that I can easily follow, so, I'm not as bad with the binding now. Still not my favorite part. LOVE spray basting! It works on both large and small projects.

I like making blocks but suffer a lot of pain trying to get the dang things together. I'm not the fussy exacting personality type who thrives on perfection. Every time I say "I wish I were more exacting...," I remember all the qualities I have because I am not exacting. I can do other things and am happy I can!!! Now, back to those dang blocks.....

I'm with you, I love the quilting, hate the binding, too!

You might want to try machine binding like Pat Sloan. Check out her website. I am sure she would have some instructions. Or maybe UTube. NQA certified judges accept machine binding now. Saves a ton of time and is more practical for kids quilts especially.

I don't mind binding since I started gluing it with a glue stick and ironing it down. No pins to contend with!
