Oh my---OUCH! When I was a child (8 yrs old) my Aunt Em was teaching me to sew on her treadle Singer (oh how I wish I had that)...as we sewed, the phone rang, she went to answer and I continued to sew...right thru my pointing finger...It hurt so badly that I stopped peddling and the needle just stayed there. I was yelling my brothers name (looking for help) and all my Aunt said from the kitchen was "Arthur, leave her alone" having no clue what I had done. I was standing beside the machine, in front of the machine, sitting down, standing up and never gave a thought to turning the wheel to lift the needle out. Finally, after several moments of crying, Aunt Em came into the dining room and saved the day----and my finger. She told me "Now you really know how to sew...you must keep your fingers away from the needle". God Bless her soul...such a painful but happy memory. Needless to say, I "respect" the needle on a sewing machine!!!!!

Guess I'm in the club too, as I sewed clear through the end of my pointer finger too. Luckily missed nail and bone. Had to have the whole "get it out with pliars" routine as well. Still have a scar on the end of the finger to remind me NOT to do that again.

The only way to take the pit from an avacado is to split the avacado in half. Use a sharp heavy weight knife. Whck the seed with the sharp side of the blade, then turn just a little. Seed will pop right out.

Oooooh! I came close to sewing my finger once. the needle slide off my nail tip. I have very hard nails thank goodness. I'm glad your finger is ok.

I've jabbed my fingers with pins and the needle but never SEWED my fingers to anything. I hope I never do! I'm glad you are OK.

I do the same thing while changing the needle, trying to make sure the needle is all the way to the top. I never thought about the machine needing to be turned off, but your husband is right about this one. Kind of makes me shudder to think what could happen now that you mention this. :shock:

Well, we are in an "elite" club, so to speak. I had just had my nails done (a real treat) and was sewing on a quilt. That needle went right into my index fingernail and all the way through, breaking the needle. Reversed the whole thing and pulled the needle out. THIS one hurt!

Did the same thing years ago (about 40) with my thumb. Watched that needle go right through the tip and sat there dumbfounded. "Now what do I do?" Same thing = turned the wheel and pulled it out. This one, unbelievably, did not hurt at all.

Don't plan on doing this again. Twice in 40 years is enough.
