Both the OBW and the bargello make me dizzy. I don't like looking at them-- there is no place to rest my eyes. I do prefer the kaleidoscope blocks arranged in some type of order and with calmer backgrounds. My own opinion, of course.
Some of you gals (and guys) work so hard on these and they really are beautiful works of art, but I can't look at them for too long. Congratulations to those of you who get these done.

I was very excited to make this quilt. I took the class. My problem was my choice of fabric...I was so excited about this class that I bought two fabrics for two quilts. How funny when I took my class that the woman sitting next to me had bought the same fabric as the one I chose to do second.
Well my first fabric was too packed and busy, my blocks had no flow....it was as if i choped up all the fabric and looked the same after I put them back together...this quilt will never get finished.
Now the woman sitting next to me....hers was too open and I did not like her blocks....This will become a shower curtain someday as it is beautiful fabric but not cut up.

I have one on my design wall .. for months. Just can't bring my self to finish it. I need to let myself off the hook and just toss it and forget it ever happened.

I feel much the same about the QAYG Kansas Sunflower. Is there a mistake I didn't make? Is there a technique for setting the blocks with sashing I haven't tried? It looks so fabulous but I'm sick of it. Just have to put the rows together now and DD will take it away. We should have a "I'll finish yours if you'll finish mine". Or maybe, I'll burn yours if you'll shred mine.

I also will never do a OBW. I was so tired of that quilt and no matter how hard I tried, and no matter how many times I ripped seams out, many of my centers don't match. At any rate, I worked so hard on this quilt that I wanted to give it the best chance to look pretty. After all, the fabric is beautiful. As ashamed of my work as I was, Charismah agreeded to quilt it for me sight unseen. Of course she did a beautiful job (as always) and my daughter loves it. I don't know what happened to her quilting machine, but I believe it broke down right after she finished this quilt for me. I just prayed that it wasn't because of my bad work. I wonder if it would have been easier if I hadn't pressed the seams open as the directions stated.

I haven't made one mainly because I really didn't care for most of the ones I've seen. I do like a few that had plain blocks inbetween the OBW ones, seemed to make the OBW blocks more appealing to the eye. Maybe adding the plain blocks would make you like your OBW more.

I don't care for them either. And I don't understand why the other block - an open box shape? - is included?

I've found sewing a OBW is the quickest way to make a quilt. Mine have gone together very fast and I especially love the excitement that happen when you first assemble a finished hexagon (pinned together). I also enjoy arranging the blocks into their final or ( maybe not), location. I do realize that some people don't care for them, but I love them. Isn't it great that we have so many different patterns to pick from. If you don't like making a OBW choose something else. A picture would be great, so we can see what you are talking about.

You either really love the process or hate it. I have several friends that have give their pieces away and when it was together and belonging to someone else, loved the look of it. I also have a friend that is possessed with doing these and does beautiful work. She always teaches the newest technique
