Ok I'll be honest here. I lost interest in sewing for awhile, but yesterday my son & I rearranged my sewing tables so now I kinda wanna get back into it. Has anyone ever gone thru this? Kinda went thru the "I DON"T FEEL LIKE IT" blues.....

Shibori 03-23-2010 08:49 AM

all the time.....

Maride 03-23-2010 08:51 AM

I ahd surgery in january and didn't even go to the sewing room until early March. I pushed myself to go back and now I am having a hard time coming out of it again.

Me too! I'm that phase right now. Since I broke my machine I haven't felt like doing anything. I have rearranged my stash and this week I plan to sort out all the scraps. :x :(

Dawn Hendrix 03-23-2010 08:57 AM

Me, too. Usually when it is about 110 for three weeks in a row. Can't even think about touching fabric then.

I did, after running my upholstery company since I was 17. I retired almost 9 yrs ago, I couldn't bring myself to even look at a machine. But now I have gotten back into with a vengeance. It's a good thing too, my kids keep throwing grandbabies at me, I need quilts to catch them in. :)

HeatherQuilts 03-23-2010 09:19 AM

No, you are definitely not alone! I just posted not to long ago about this same thing. It was titled "How do you stay motivated" or something similar. I think it's just like any other "hobby", we don't feel like doing it ALL the time.
My solution: quilt when you feel like it, when you will enjoy it, that is the point of a hobby! If I force myself to do something, it usually doesn't turn out very nice, because I'm in a hurry.
On the other hand, sometimes it just takes me sewing a seam, and the next thing I know, hours have passed!
Do what feels right....

watterstide 03-23-2010 09:19 AM

i go in spurts..will sew for a week, everyday, then nothing for a week or two..it happens to all of us..

SuzyM 03-23-2010 09:20 AM

Yep I flip between scrapbooking and quilting all of the time.

SulaBug 03-23-2010 09:24 AM

Aren't they cute? (avitar). I have no idea where or when I found it. LOL I'm real good at collecting cute pics I find on the net. I came on here a few times but felt bad cuz I wasn't sewing. Do I belong even when I'm not sewing..... Oh I hate these moods I get into.....

RedGarnet222 03-23-2010 10:05 AM

Sure! That is when I do my other crafts for a while until I get motivated to sew again. ps) Welcome back, I wondered where you were.

vjengels 03-23-2010 10:07 AM

Oh yeah, I didn't go into my sewing room for most of 2 years; then one day I looked around and everything else seemed to be in the way of me getting in there and doing something.

Rose Hall 03-23-2010 10:33 AM

mcdaniel023 03-23-2010 10:48 AM

It happens to me when I am supposed to be working on something I NEED to get done, not what I want to get done.
Welcome back, we missed you.
And sewing or not, you belong here. Your friends are here!

I'm fine honey. I guess between menopause and the winter Blahhhhhhs, it just got to me. I'm slowly coming around. I promise to come here even if I'm not sewing. I can still ooooo & awwwwwww over everyone elses.

:D

SaraSewing 03-23-2010 10:52 AM

Sewing, like many other things comes in waves. We can't always be on a constant high. There has been times I've not even touched the machine, even for mending, for months. But don't worry, you'll get touched by the "bug" again soon. I'm just glad you're ok. Take the passenger's seat for a while, and it won't be long until you're beggin' to get in the drivers seat again.

beckyw 03-23-2010 10:55 AM

Welcome back. I have that problem too.

Boston1954 03-23-2010 11:01 AM

From Christmas to May of last year I don't think I even walked into my sewing room. I finally got interested in making a small quilt for a friend and then I was back into it.

Ninnie 03-23-2010 11:04 AM

Welcome back Bev! We have missed you! yes, this happens to me also, I will go off of sewing for a few days. Looking at books does help some. Glad to see you are back at sewing!!

It has happened to me, and I know it has happened to my sis. Glad you are back.

eparys 03-23-2010 12:42 PM

That because you have been busy "farming" (lol - smile).

Stitchnripper 03-23-2010 12:48 PM

I'm in a slump right now. Began before the holidays. I did sew a few seams yesterday. A few seams does not a quilt make!!!!!

jljack 03-23-2010 12:55 PM

In the past 4 years my worst time was 2009 spring, when my RA really kicked up, and all I could do was lay on the couch. I was out of the sewing room for about 4 months....no energy. So, yes, I have had that, but not for lack of wanting to. Once in a while I get busy and don't go in for a few days or a whole weekend, but not often.

janRN 03-23-2010 02:22 PM

Welcome back, Bev. I've missed seeing pictures of your "ladies" and other embroidery. I'm with everyone else-get in a funk and nothing interests me. I have really bad seasonal depression (it's lifting now YAY!!) so hope to quit playing Yahtzee and Solitare and start sewing some more. C'mon, Bev, we can do this!!

Rose Marie 03-23-2010 02:33 PM

Glad your back Bev.
Sometimes I just have to have down time. Even though there are a dozen projects I want to do.

ChristineD 03-23-2010 03:15 PM

I am in the same place right now. I haven't touched any sewing since last November. Just can't get going. but it is out and I keep looking at it. So hopefully soon.
Christine

Hello Bev. I have lurked on here for so long that I feel like I know some of you. I have missed seeing your posts Bev. And yes, I also get in these funks. Just coming out of one as a matter of fact. A 4 month funk. This Msg Board has helped me. The wonderful pics are so inspiring. Do you nice folks really understand how many people yall probably help that you never even know about? Goodness I've lurked for over a year! So Thank You All for being the group you are. And Bev that includes you also. You will come out of this mood and will be stitching away soon. Betcha.

Sharon321 03-23-2010 05:32 PM

I go through phases also. One phase is info gathering, then planning, then doing. I used to have a buying phase but have put myself on a spending deit and work from my stash and ufo only.

2wheelwoman 03-23-2010 06:16 PM

I've been in the same sort of "funks" where sewing is the last thing on my mind. I don't even enter my sewing room, and DH asks why we set one up if I'm not going to use it. Then...time passes...and the bug bites again. It will bite you also. And please keep joining us even if you're not sewing. You've been missed.

Jeannie34 03-23-2010 06:16 PM

glad your back on track. I get that way sometimes, no rhyme or reason.

Margie 03-23-2010 06:35 PM

Glad you are back Bev...enjoy the new arrangement. Sometimes a little organization or a change in the room seems to give us a burst of Sewing energy, doesnt it!

Margie

mountain-moma 03-23-2010 06:47 PM

Quiltntime 03-24-2010 06:03 PM

I think we all go through those slumps in sewing. I'm just coming out of one right now. I think Spring Fever has a lot to do with it.
Hope you get your groove back too.

craftybear 03-26-2010 09:57 PM

Yes, I think we all have been thru that (sometimes get burned out on certain types of crafts)

I'm glad you are back! Happy Quilting!
