It's Virtual Quilt Weekend

After a long April, Virtual Quilt Weekend is back. Hope to "see" lots of you over the weekend. My husband is having minor surgery today so I'll pop in and out over the weekend. Not sure how much quilting I'll get done myself but I would at least like to find the floor in my sewing room and find some blocks I'm supposed to have done by Monday so I can sew them! I do have some hand quilting I could work on and that I really SHOULD work on. So get comfortable, and get quilting :)

GingerK 05-02-2014 04:39 AM

Oooooh!! Finally! A virtual quilt weekend when I actually have the weekend off!! After a tremendously stressful month, where, besides the craziness of life, I needed to make a wedding quilt for friends' DD, (will share pics of that as soon as the binding is on) I decided to take a wee break for myself, and started a twister pattern. (I really should have gone back to niece's wedding quilt that needs to be done by Sept. but just could not face it)

I would love to finish the twister pattern this weekend (and put the binding on that wedding quilt!)

Raggiemom, will be sending lots of healing thoughts towards your DH. Mine also just had some 'minor' surgery that ended up not-so-minor, but hopefully is on the mend now.

Billi 05-02-2014 05:06 AM

I wish I could join :-( we have a BBQ island being delivered this weekend and then probably friends over for dinner. It's been so busy around here I have not been in my sewing room for more than 20minutes at a time for weeks. other than when DD #1 and I made 360 heart shaped tea bags for a bridal shower.

Everybody have fun I look forward to coming back to see what you all got done.

Boston1954 05-02-2014 06:27 AM

Jim and I are going to a quilt show tomorrow, but as soon as I come home, there are two projects that I want to get working on. I wish I could show a picture, but the new computer has not been set up for that yet.

SewExtremeSeams 05-02-2014 07:43 AM

Really? I will have to get my act together.

klgls 05-02-2014 08:57 AM

Ohhh - I wish I could join in, but I'm planning on visiting my parents this weekend (although there are 2 quilts shops near them :) ). You all have fun quilting!

thimblebug6000 05-02-2014 09:02 AM

Hope to join in and spend more time getting my Sylvia blocks caught up, thanks for hosting this!

PenniF 05-02-2014 10:25 AM

I'm in again Raggiemom !!! Got a list of quilts need doing and need to get my act together. Been only playing at things since i finished the under the sea quilt....needed a little break....so this weekend is just the thing to get me going. Best of good thoughts coming your way for your DH.

I forgot I had traced out the 4th Fatcatpatterns penguin block last night, so got that fused this morning, will save the satin stitching until later as a treat from piecing my 6" Sylvia's .

Just post what you are working on or what you hope to accomplish. Post pictures to share as you work, if you can and check back in a few times throughout the weekend to see how much everyone has accomplished, that's it.... just for fun!

kristakz 05-02-2014 12:33 PM

Oh yay. I have lots of longarming I want to get through. But I hope to spend some quality time in the sewing room too.

laughingquilter 05-02-2014 12:49 PM

This is so cool - - I've seen posts like this before but have never been able to participate. My sewing room is a mess! I was at a quilting frolic last weekend and just brought my stuff back and dumped it. I'm in the mood to get everything put away, straightened up and start trimming my scraps up and it'll be fun to do it with all of you. Best of luck to everyone on getting things accomplished!

Hopefully everyone will post what they're working on so we can all enjoy! I'm working on catching up with the Sylvia's Bridal Sampler BOM here on the board. Here are my 2 finished today for week 16

SewExtremeSeams 05-02-2014 05:01 PM

Thimblebug, I love that second block. Isn't it called tipped canoes? I have done that with black & white with a splash of hot pink.

deedum 05-02-2014 05:39 PM

This may be just the boost I need to get back to a quilt I have been working on. Any luck I could finish the quilting on it this weekend. Think I will head in the sewing room yet tonight.

judy363905 05-02-2014 07:15 PM

I will join in tomorrow , I have a baby quilt that needs sandwiching and also working on UFO labyrinth way quilt. :)

Judy in Phx, AZ

Anoka Quilter 05-02-2014 08:07 PM

Count me in, I am cutting backing fabric tonight so I can begin quilting a top first thing in the morning.

sewingsuz 05-02-2014 08:33 PM

I will be in my sewing room also. I am finishing up the binding on two of the One fish Two fish wall hangings. These were alot of work. Next I need to make a couple flannel baby blankets for an order my Mom put in and at flower pot wall hanging for Mom for Mother's Day. Have Fun everyone and happy sewing this week.

Anoka Quilter 05-02-2014 09:57 PM

In addition to getting the one top quilted I also hope to get a good start, if not finish, my wall hanging for the Swap that will be happening in June. If I get those two things done I have a top that I believe most of the blocks are finished that I can begin putting together It will be interesting to see how much I get done this weekend.

Looking forward to sewing with everyone.

Littlebearquiltingboard 05-03-2014 12:23 AM

I'd like to join in too. I am sporadically working on a star EPP quilt and I could do with adding some more to it. This is just what I need to get me going.

I will post a pic of where I'm at in a while. I also need to back a hexagon EPP quilt that I finished last year but I will see how I feel about that one once I've stitched some more stars.

I will enjoy watching everyone's progress this weekend.

117becca 05-03-2014 01:22 AM

I'll be joining!!! I'm working on a king-size quilt. It's been an 18 month process (hand-quilted) The end is in sight and now i'm really upping my work on it. I'm ready for my next project!

mcdaniel023 05-03-2014 02:49 AM

I will be joining in sometime this weekend. We are redoing flower beds today. 100 crescent bricks are waiting. If I can move later I want to get going on a bookcase quilt for my mom.

jmoore 05-03-2014 03:01 AM

Not sure how much I can spend today on my projects but will have more time tomorrow for sure. I have decided to add extra sashing and border to my son's queen size quilt and have purchased fabric for a baby boy blanket that I'm excited to get started.

lclang 05-03-2014 04:41 AM

No quilting for me this weekend. Big car show at the Mall and my husband entered his 29 Nash. He'll be running in and out all weekend needing to be fed. Also have a crocheted "name" doily that has t be stretched and pressed for a wedding next weekend and a kid's chair that I'm supposed to put a new bottom on for my daughter. Did just finish cutting binding for a kid's quilt this week and made a cute watercolor block at Guild on Thursday evening.

Momo 05-03-2014 05:58 AM

I am working on a quilt for my daughter. Can I join in with pictures of it. I am adding sashing this weekend and hope to begin joining the blocks. How does this work? Just post pictures at this thread of what I am working on?

Raggiemom 05-03-2014 06:00 AM

Hi Momo, yes, just add pictures to this thread. We all love to see pictures of what people are working on.

Finished up 2 6" blocks for my block of the week project (this week's, and next, so I'm ahead now). Working on a bias border for a quilt, which is coming out great! if I do say so myself. Will post pics this afternoon. For now, I'm off on my weekly run to the quilt store with the block of the week :)

liese 05-03-2014 06:43 AM

I've got a quilt I need to bind today and I made 6 tops between February and March that need quilting. Unfortunately I only have enough batting to quilt two. Does anyone remember the name of the online vendor who has Hobbs 80/20 at a reasonable price? Someone just posted it last month or so and now I'm looking for it. I want to try the Hobbs because my last roll of W&N was so thin. Did anyone else notice that? I hope Hobbs 80/20 will have a little more loft to it. I also want to make some of the fabric boxes! There was a tute here yesterday. Looks like a cute idea to use to put a plant in for Mothers Day!

Raggiemom 05-03-2014 06:54 AM

liese, was it Connecting Threads? I know I received an email from them about a batting sale but don't remember when I received it!

My husband is doing fine after his surgery (wisdom teeth). Man, I was in terrible pain for several days afterwards and had two dry sockets. So after lunch, I will be cleaning up my sewing room, hopefully find the blocks so I can sew them together. Then I need to prep some blocks for my Tuesday afternoon quilting group. They need squaring and more plain ones need to be cut. So I will check back in with y'all later.

So glad to see all of you quilting with me this weekend :)

Anoka Quilter 05-03-2014 07:43 AM

I will begin my quilting weekend here shortly. I just work up; however, I was up till 2:30am prepping for things I wanted to work on today, so I don't feel too bad about sleeping in. Looking forward to the virtual weekend. Now I am wondering if I can get DH to cook today, that way I would definitely feel like I am at quilt camp :)

MargeD 05-03-2014 08:02 AM

I'll try to join you, although I just cut out 2 dresses for our DGD that I'm making for her 4th birthday later this month. Have to keep our girlie girl in dresses, and she's so darn cute in them. If these two go well, I'll start on her princess dress in lavender satin with lavender tulle overskirt, as she loves all the Disney princesses. I haven't made any clothes for a while, but I'm sure I'll remember how.

No, not Connecting Threads. Some name I had never heard of before. I will have to see if I wrote it down. I've been keeping a journal lately on quilts I want to make and suppliers.

Here's where I'm at with my EPP.

I haven't done any sewing today - the weather is beautiful today so I went to the allotment instead. I'm hoping I can add to it tomorrow.

aeble 05-03-2014 10:16 AM

Littlebearquiltingboard, that is gorgeous!

I'm actually working from a hotel room today in Allentown, PA. We have a trade show to attend this weekend, but I managed to convince my husband to let me beg off today and just sit and sew.

I've brought a few projects I prepped Thursday. Right now, I'm using a peacock batik and black terry cloth to make 12 reusable "paper towels" for part of my cousin's wedding gift (July wedding) out of 12.5" squares. I have 12 cocktail napkins to make from the same batik. But I left the table topper portion of the gift at home. I'm working on a small double wedding ring piece with coordinating fabrics.

I also brought 4 child sized adjustable aprons that I'm making for my daughter's class to use. I'm using a thicker canvas fabric from Ikea for it that I got on clearance. It's the same as what's posted here: http://teachlovecraft.com/wp-content...keaFabric2.jpg

And I have another uniform dress to finish for my daughter. She's just about out of her current size, so I should really get my but in gear on that one.

Quilty-Louise 05-03-2014 10:35 AM

Ohhh I am joining this time.

I have been working on cleaning my table so that I can
get back to cutting & sewing ALL the aprons that I need
to have finished by next weekend.

I have 8-12 full size aprons & 8-15 half aprons that I need
to get busy with. I have the "length" of the aprons cut, just
need to do the "final" cutting before I can sew them.

Essentially I am working on the production style, but I SHOULD
probably work on completing each apron this way I can be sure
to have at least some of the ready LOL.

I will post pictures when I can.

GailG 05-03-2014 11:26 AM

I'm not sure what a Sylvia's block is but I'm sure I'll find out as continue to read. Thimblebug, your blue blocks are gorgeous!

GailG 05-03-2014 11:33 AM

I know that no one wants to hear about my procrastination on the AirForce chevron quilt again, but I will justify by saying that in the last ten days I've finished 9 doz. +3 baptismal bibs for our church. I think I'll enjoy reading about all that you industrious people are doing this weekend. Happy sewing!

Raggiemom 05-03-2014 11:53 AM

Wow, there are some industrious people on here! I got the 2 sets of blocks ready for Tuesday and I found the blocks I was missing for Monday. I'll probably sew them tomorrow as the cat took my sewing chair. I'm cutting denim squares for another quilt now.

cat-on-a-mac 05-03-2014 12:24 PM

Littlebear, that is really nice. What is "EPP"?

I've started the blocks for the quilt some of the QBers helped me with (http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...n-t246011.html). However, my final design is a bit different from what I had in that thread -- I'll surprise everyone when I'm finished! I do plan to use the yellow, however! I will post some pics .... if NASCAR races and installation of a new A/C leave me time for sewing, that is!
