Good for you trying something new! I am one who likes to stay in my comfort zone but have been trying to venture outside of it. I really like the fabrics you chose. The button idea is great! Please send another picture when you get it finished. :)

First, it's really cute. If your going to use it as a wall hanging, I would use fusible batting and maybe do hand quilting instead of machine. You could always sew decorative buttons in the center of each pinwheel and that would serve as your quilting.

repress some seams on the shorter sides. that should help it give a bit more.
