It is very pretty. My first thought was the city - night and day.

Have you ever knitted with variagated thread? It will do the same thing. That's part of the intended design of the variagation. Enjoy, really pretty quilt.

did you cut off 18 inches off the strip before you started sewing the rows?

I think it was just the way the strips were lined up. When I made my jelly roll quilt I tried to mix up the colors more but one section ended up having an overabundance of one color. I used Lily and Will blue by Moda for this baby quilt. Think I'm going to applique a dark brown bear on it to balance out my colors. It is an easy project once the strips are sewn together.

I think I have the same jelly roll. I also found the colors tended to be lumped together. Don't think it was anything you did...I think it's a function of lack of variety within the jelly roll. I think mine only had 6 different fabrics. I decided to do something different halfway thru because I didn't like the pattern. I'd probably do it again but will definitely look for more variety within the jelly roll itself.

I hope you figure it out and post directions for how to do it on purpose because that is a really pretty effect.

Could it be that's how the strips in the jellyroll just happened to be stacked?

You can sit on the pink side and a friend can sit on the green side. Love the results just the way they are.
