I pin most of the time, sure beats going back and ripping out.

I used to until I sewed over a pin and broke my needle. I like the freedom of not pinning it is a personal thing. Once you get comfortable you will join the ranks of the pinless!

I don't pin unless there are seems to match up. If I'm just sewing individual pieces together, no pins!

I used to pin a lot, but now I use my stiletto to hold things in place as I sew.

I am the odd ball.. I do not like to pin, as it distorts the edges of my seamlines, and it usually causes me problems than good. If something needs to be pinned, I usually glue it with Elmers  :D:D:D

No. I do if there are connecting seams. I will pin the seams to match but for strips or just sewing pieces together, no pinning.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Do what works for you. It varies depending on the fabric, block pattern, angles, etc.

Most pin only when need to

only at intersecting seams--saves unsewing--always buy long thin glasshead pins a dream to use more expensive but worth it--also use pins as markers ie which way up etc

MaryStoaks 01-05-2011 06:51 PM

Only when sewing triangles.

That's my approach. If I don't pin, I won't forget to remove pins. I try always to pin join points, however. This is not to say that I sew randomly. I usually hod things in place as I go.

Unless i am doing really big ones (9" or more), I don't pin HSTs
