I have laminate in my sewing room. It works great. It was on the cheap side but you can't tell.
My only issue is that my roller chair slides to fast on it or won't stay up close to my machine.
If anyone has a suggestion on how I can keep the chair from sliding away from my machine while sewing that would be great. I tried a small rug but then the chair didn't move at all. That was a real pain because I like to get up and down to press it gives me a break from the machine.

We have a vinal installed in our back work station at work over 2 years a light woodgrain look. We have 3 employees who use chairs with rollers on them and there is not one scratch on it. I will install in my kitchen when I redo it.

I have both and I actually prefer the vinyl planks. They look more like real wood than the laminate and are easier to keep spot free. If anyone out there with laminate has figured out a way to clean it without leaving spots and streaks I'd love to hear about it.

I have very dark laminate planks in my living area. Dark shows everything more then white! I use Bruce Laminate floor cleaner, no streaks and dries fast. The floor glows. Everyone notices the floor. I use a big rectangle smooth surface swivel mop. I can only find it at Lowe's here.

We Re doing my quilting space with vinyl click plank boards. Very easy to install, and looks great. We put Thermosoft heated floor pace underneath so floor is comfortable and warm! I did my research and waited for a sale at Lumber Liquidators. No business ties with either company and got great service both places.

Buy a plastic mat for your rolling chair. There are ones made especially for wood/laminate/vinyl flooring.

My last house had laminate and loved it.
My mobile home has vinyl and it works well also but not as pretty as laminate.
No problem with my roll around chair on both.

I have carpet so not sure which you should choose. Congrats on your new sewing room!

Perhaps ask a flooring person about getting a "commercial" grade of vinyl. I have it in my kitchen, and I love it! No marks, no cuts, etc. Worth it to me! Still looks great after 9 years!

Not reading all the other posts - maybe vinyl would be softer and more comfortable to stand/walk on?
