Wow, I am so sorry...I was hoping that you had found it... :-(
|
Hi.....Please do not give up hope.... I ordered some fabric from the US at the beginning of December...it was sent priority to me in the UK, tracked.... but simply didn't arrive... in February Icontacted the shop who traced it and were told that it was in transit....it eventually turned up in March......I really hope that your quilt is just taking the scenic route to you and that it will arrive soon....
|
I'm still praying that your quilt will come back home safely to you. ;)
|
this happened to Mark Lipinski...they found his two years later in another persons office still boxed, ready to ship, but never got shipped back to him....
|
Janet, I have been thinking so much about you and your missing quilt. Have you had any news. Has UPS been any help? What is your next step?
|
UPS does insure everything but the porblem is the shipper has to file the claim and is the one who actually gets the payment for the insurance. Years ago I sold glassware on ebay and some arrived broken. I had to file the claim and turn in the cost of each piece. They paid me and I had to pay the received. she still had the dishes but got paid for the broken ones. They even sent the adjuster to her house but I am the one who had to handle the transaction.
Hope you find your quilt. |
Oh my... I have just read all your posts and am now totally caught up in the saga.
Please keep us up to date on the missing quilt and I will keep my fingers crossed that it is returned home safe and sound. Hugs |
The quilt still hasn't been located. As far as UPS is concerned, there is nothing else they can do. All I can do is hope it shows up someday.
I have made my peace with the situation. Meanwhile, I consider myself a lucky quilter. The quilt could have disappeared on the way to its first quilt show. Instead, I had the opportunity to see it with ribbons at Vermont Quilt Festival and the Houston Quilt Festival. It went to several other shows where it won ribbons. Not many quilters get that opportunity. The quilt disappeared in the UPS system in Colorado, on its way home from being photographed by Quilters Newsletter. It makes me proud to think that my quilt will be on the cover of the June /July issue. Thanks for all your prayers and good wishes. The support of people who have never met me or seen my quilt means a lot to me, and made a negative event, positive. Janet |
Oh how heart breaking!! I'm so sorry this has happen. Even though UPS has given up, I will pray that someday, somehow your beautiful quilt will be returned to you. Hugs
|
Thanks, Cindy.
I think it will turn up, but not any time soon. Meanwhile, I'm looking forward. I have an applique top that I've been working on, and it makes me happy when I see it. And I already have Kaaterskill's sibling planned. When I get the applique top done, I'll start hand piecing the next one. IJanet |
Sorry
|
Janet, I really admire your attitude. You have my full respect.

May I make a suggestion? I used to work at a quilt shop and the UPS driver would drop off bolts of fabric inside our back door and scan the bar codes. But occasionally he would leave a bolt addressed to another shop (because it looked like our stuff) and sometimes missed a scan. If you could find out the stops your driver made the day your item disappeared, it may have been left at one of those locations. They may think it's just an error in their favor and not realize it was a handmade treasure. If you check the scans on your item number on the UPS tracking website, you can narrow down the day. The hardest part is getting any info from UPS, but it's worth a try. If you could narrow down the area, you could put an ad in the local paper.
|
Oh, this is just awful and I'm so sorry. I'm hoping for the safe return of your quilt - and quickly!
|
Thanks, Andrea. The whole thing makes no sense, but I can't let it get me down. When I look at what I had, instead of what I don't have, I really can't feel too bad after all. It's not the only quilt I'll ever make!

I would still try to run an ad in a Colorado area newspaper. It probably didn't travel too far, if no one scanned it.
Maybe the person who has your quilt will see it and realize it wasn't just a freebie from the "man." Or try to get a nationwide magazine (like People) to include your story and a picture of your quilt! It is beautiful, by the way! I will cross my fingers for you! |
I think it's still in the UPS system. After a while, they auction off trailers full of lost and unclaimed items. I think it will surface then. I've reached the point where I can't worry anymore. What will be, will be.
Janet |
Janet, thank you for the update. I have to admit, however, that I was hoping for much better news. I pray that someday your beautiful quilt will be found and can be returned home to you. ;-)

Janet,
I'm truly sorry your quilt has not turned up and do admire your ability to be philosophical about a loss that is great. I sure hope that some day it will find it's way home to you. |
That is such a beautiful quilt. I'm so sorry that it is lost and they are of no help. I will be posting on my facebook for you. Maybe if enough people will do this SOMEONE has had to have seen it!! Hoping it gets returned to you very soon.
Hugs. |
Not the ending any of us was hoping for. I sure hope QNM has expressed their condolences to you appropriately seeing as they were the last ones to have possession. I hope also that they include a mention in the article that it was indeed lost on it's return to you after the photo shoot as well.
I love your attitude about it. I think I would still be bitter and mad about it. True you did get to see it in some shows and it did win some ribbons before it turned up missing, I'd still be angry and bitter. |
Well, I just received my QNM June/July issue today, with Janet's quilt on the cover. I have to say, I am VERY disappointed that there was NO information included in the article that this quilt is missing. They could at least have said it was missing at the time it went to print.
|
Is it just me, or does it seem that QNM is not that interested in taking any of the responsibility here?? They say they shipped it, you didn't received, and UPS has no record?? Hmmmm. Will keep praying.
|
It could still show up, but when is anyone's guess.
Quilters Newsletter was distressed that the quilt went awol, but they are firm in laying the blame on UPS. I am disappointed that they didn't mention what happened, but it is what it is. I'm glad it's in the magazine, though - Kaaterskill went out with a real bang! Janet |
Well, I'm going to write a letter to the editor, expressing my dismay that they didn't print the fact that the quilt is missing.
WHO'S WITH ME????? :) |

Thanks...I'm glad to know how much support I have.
It's been a rough road, but there comes a time when you have to look forward. I have the center panel for another quilt stretched out over my quilt frame. Every time I go into the sewing room, I smile because while it's not perfect, it's colorful and it makes me happy to know that soon, I'll have another project to hand quilt. I also know that a lot of really negative things that have happened in my life, have turned into positives when I look back. This one is going to be a toughie, but I really think that when I look back some day, I'll know that there was a good reason for this to happen. Janet |
Hinterland: I know you say you have made peace with this, but we all know it will still bother you. If I may suggest something?
All stataes have state fairs, etc. Most do quilt shows. I would go to the expense and effort of personally writing and sending a photo to the head of the fair or person in charge of that dept. and letting them know and asking them to be on the lookout for your quilt. I know we have our fair here in August, and I will keep an eye out for it and a few others from around the area that are on the missing list. People never cease to amaze me. So sad. Good luck. |
