On February 16, 2011, my quilt was shipped from Golden, Colorado via UPS 2nd Day Air. It hasn't been seen since.
UPS put a tracer on it, but after 10 days they closed the case because they couldn't locate the box, telling me that I could have the shipper file a claim. They don't seem to get it - i want my quilt back! It's hand pieced, hand appliqued, and hand quilted. I will never get those years back and I refuse to believe that it just disappeared. And now, to top it all off, it's been juried into the AQS show in Paducah. If anyone here knows anyone at UPS who can help me, please let me know. My heart is breaking, and the show deadline is coming up at the end of the month. Thanks, everyone. Janet |
oh.. my heart is broken for you ! so sorry
|
Hoping this work of art and heart finds its way home to you soon.
I can't imagine your heartbreak. Please keep us posted. |
How terrible. All I can do is hope and pray you get it back.
|
That's horrible.
Your quilt is beautiful. Have you tried escalating your issue with UPS to talk to a supervisor or manager? Keep calling back until you have talked to everyone they will connect you with. I am not sure what else they can do. I did have a package go missing once and they told me it had been delivered but they couldn't say where. I kept calling and being a nuisance and low and behold the package arrived within a few days. They never could tell me where it had been or how they "got it back." I hope this works out for you. |
Janet, I can't believe that! UPS close the case after only 10 days? Aren't they responsible for the complete transport when they accept to do it?
You know you have all my sympathy... |
Makes me sick just to think about it. Be sure to list it on the lost quilt sites. I know of one on the Quilters Cache site :
http://www.quilterscache.com/MISSINGQUILTS.html Good luck. I hope your quilt is located and returned to you soon. |
I read somewhere once that you should never put the word "Quilt" anywhere that is visible on the outside of the package when mailing a quilt. I can't remember what word they suggested using, but actually, any word would do .......maybe "linens" ?
|
Keep bugging them...not the peons in the front...but the bosses...and their bosses..
Also start Emailing all of the above. At both ends...from where shipped to where it was supposed to be shipped. Tracking will show all transfer points. Contact them too... |

http://www.quilterscache.com/MISSINGQUILTS.html Good luck. I hope your quilt is located and returned to you soon. I won a raffle quilt last year that was appraised at $1795.00 and the designers and quilters are trying to enter it into a competition this year. They have to do it within a year of being made. All of us are concerned about the safety and security of it while it is out of our hands so I can sympathize with you. I would be totally heartbroken if it was ever lost, and I didn't make it! Good luck on finding your beautiful quilt. |
When you call UPS, just keep going higher and higher. Then each level supervisor knows his *&^% is on the line. They can and will do a complete search. Was it insured. If so they can backtrack to each person who touched it. Good luck and I pray for its safe return, in time.

I am So sorry that this happened to you
|
Janet, I just talked to a good quilting friend in Hamburg. He knows somebody who works for UPS in a managing position. This person will be back in the office next week.
So if you agree send me a PM with the parcel no. and other available details, maybe he can find something out for you! BTW, my friend also told me that the shipper has to file the claim at UPS - has he/she already done that? |
What an awful thing to happen, I'm so sorry. I do hope it turns up at some point.
|
How heartbreaking! Call the local news stations and newspapers. One may do a show about your plight. Don't give up calling and emailing every high up exe at UPS. Be a big pain in the butt! Someone has this quilt whether the box was lost or misplaced, someone has procession of it. A local quilter had her quilt in Paducah several years ago. She packed it in three boxes, each bigger then the next. The box was too big to lose! She took pictures of the packing box at the UPS office, all labels and even the clerk. I read that there are tiny GPS thingy that can be used to sew in clothes. I think that would be excellent to use in any quilt going to a big show. It cost a fee to activate the GPS but the location can be pinpointed, like the new cell phones can be located if lost or stolen.
|
OH NO!!!!!! Please let us know if you find it....Don't give up.....it has to be somewhere!!! I don't trust UPS anymore, I use Fedex.
|
Your quilt is gorgeous, and I can only imagine how much work went into it. I hope they find it, soon.
|
How horrible! I do know...the shipper has to file a claim w/UPS. Get name, rank, employee nbr of every person you talk to with date and time. Good luck! I agree that quilt is somewhere.
|
What an awful thing to happen! Your quilt is stunning! Oh, I feel sick for you, the hours, the work, the creativity invested! Keep working with UPS, don't accept the quick "too bad, so sad" baloney you are getting. Your quilt is a masterpiece. I also think that you should put it on the news and any lost quilt sites, so that if someone sees it, it might be returned to you. We should all print this out and take a file of lost quilt photos to shows and expos. As sick as it is, it may have been stolen, and might end up on eBay, or at a show, raffle or auction. I do pray you get your amazing quilt back. Hugs to you, so sorry this is happening.

Thanks, Andrea - I will email the info to you. I appreciate it!!
We are reluctant to file a claim until we feel we've exhausted every other option. It is handicapping not to be the shipper. My husband has been calling UPS, and he's very good at going higher and higher up the management chain. Last week, UPS said they had a box with no label. When it was inspected, it turned out not to be our box. I am hoping that by publicizing this, someway or somehow the quilt will be found. Janet |
Thanks, I will list it on Quilter's Cache. I have already put it up on LostQuilt.com.
I am so thankful for the board - I have learned lots, and everyone here is so helpful. My fingers are crossed that Kaaterskill will return home soon. Janet |
what a gorgeous quilt!! What does the UPS tracking say? THey are usually good about tracking it at each step of the way.
Hope it was insured for a lot, not that money can ever replace it,but I think they do take more care with insured packages. |
Barb, it was never scanned in by UPS. The driver remembers picking up the package, but that's all. It's a mystery.
It's insured, but it's not about the money. I feel like it's part of me that's missing, and there's no way that money is going to make me feel better about that. Janet |
So sorry that your quilt went missing. I do hope it shows up before the show. It is so sad when people can't be honnest about things.
|
I'm heartsick for you. I can't imagine the pain of losing one of my 'babies'. I pray that somehow its returned to you.
|
OMG Janet. I am just heart sick for you. I can imagine the helplessness and devastation you must be feeling at this beauty being lost.
The driver remembers picking it up but he didn't scan it right then and there? Don't they have those hand held scanners to scan in packages? This is just unbelievable. I sure hope Andrea's contact can help. Sending prayers that this quilt is found. |
Why would you "hate to file a claim", I think that is the only way to have them seriously looking for it.
|
I don't want to file a claim because I don't want them to stop looking for it. If they pay the claim, that's it. I want the quilt back, preferably in one piece.
It may very well be that the only way to get it back it to file a claim, but I won't do that until every other option has been exhausted. Janet |
Oh, how awful.
I agree with the others, UPS should do a lot more to find it, this is ridiculous. And it's a gorgeous quilt, beautiful. I'm keeping all my fingers crossed they'll find it for you. |
Janet, I am so sorry that this has happened, how awful. I can't believe that UPS would take this so lightly. Remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease. BellaBoo had a great suggestion. Get the word out to local news stations and newspapers.
Your quilt is gorgeous! I hope it is found SOON! |
I sure hope you can find it again!!! That would be quite heartbreaking!!!!
|
It's a beautiful quilt!! I hope you can get it back!
|
Janet, I felt sick just reading your post. It is so magnificent!
The others gave you good advice, I just want you to read another poster who cares :( Hope it returns to you safely. |
Just had a thought..have you contacted a local TV station and newspaper in Golden. Most have those advocate types who would love to do this kind of story. If it was stolen this may be the best way to get it recovered.
|
This is just a sin! I can't imagine/I would be devistated. i will pray for it to show up. I have read about quilts getting stolen from Quilt shows.
|
So sad! I'm so sorry.
|
So very sorry!

When we have pickups, or see drivers out and hand-off packages for our business, we always have them sign the logsheet so we have some type of proof of date/who picked it up. I am shocked the shipper didn't have something like that |
Oh Dear. Hope you can find your quilt.
|
I am so sorry. Good luck on the hunt. The more publicity the more likely someone knows where it went. that is a fabulous quilt.
