Did you say someone from post office picked it up? That person needs to checked out. Did you say it was never scanned in the system?
Find out who a supervisor is, and send them a letter by USPS "Proof of Delivery". You will get the signature of the person who signed for your letter faxed or emailed to you. Sometimes this will get recipient to give more attention to the letter you send.
Please keep us updated on the search. It is a beautiful quilt.
You need to have them search the last location it was scanned. I have had a package slip off the the tracks and fell behind some of the big carts. The package was found three weeks after so don't let them give up.

So sorry, there is a web site for lost quilts, good luck neighbor.
Sorry to hear the news! Hope it turns up! Beautiful quilt.

I am so sorry for you. Your quilt is so lovely. I had the same thing happen to me. In January I sent a birthday present quilt to my brother who lives in a home for men in Momence, Illinois. I sent it USPS Priority mail from the Main Post Office. I think I made the mistake of putting a little Happy Birthday sticker near the address label. It was sent with delivery confirmation to Honolulu, Hawaii!!!!!no trace of its delivery there.....I firmly believe it was stolen at the main post office and the empty box was sent. That belief I cannot prove. The package was not insured, big mistake. Also I know now that a package can be sent and have a signature confirmation which I will do in the future. Mine was not as skilled a quilt but I am still mad and can do nothing else about finding it.

Your quilt is beautiful. Have you tried escalating your issue with UPS to talk to a supervisor or manager? Keep calling back until you have talked to everyone they will connect you with. I am not sure what else they can do. I did have a package go missing once and they told me it had been delivered but they couldn't say where. I kept calling and being a nuisance and low and behold the package arrived within a few days. They never could tell me where it had been or how they "got it back." I hope this works out for you. |
What a beautiful quilt, and so sorry it's gone missing. Keep bugging the (*&*^) out of them for a answer to this.

Our local paper has a consumer advocate. I emailed her last week. She's been on vacation, but she's back today, so I'm hoping I can call her and get the ball rolling. Janet |

But this gives me some hope...I think if it's with UPS it will be found, but if it's stolen, that's just too ugly to think about. Janet |
What does it mean that it was juried at the AQS in Paducah?
I recently had a problem with UPS where my regular UPS driver was not working his route on the day my package was scheduled for delivery. His replacement delivered it next door (my mother saw the truck stop over there). I went to check but they were not home. I had called the shipper to report it, they called UPS while I waited and told me someone from UPS would call me within 24 hours. She called less than an hour later, was rude, told me I had no right to go next door to retrieve my package (I got her name). I called my contact at the shipper the next day to let her know I had heard from UPS and the attitude of the individual who had called (gave her the name). My neighbor brought the package to me late the next evening. My regular UPS Driver stopped the next day and apologized. I also reported the rude individual by name to him. In the past, I have had packages rerouted to 8 year old addresses by UPS because the shipper omitted a street address. After making a lot of noise, even though I was not the shipper, I was able to get the shipment rerouted back to where it was to be delivered. Keep trying UPS, the individual who delivered it to the wrong address is responsible. The problem is that UPS does not require a signature on residential addresses, they can just leave it and it is considered delivered (correct or incorrect). It is also helpful to keep watching the package's progress via the tracking system. If your husband has been doing all the calling, you might put on your Big Girl Pants, make the call yourself, get a little emotional/hysterical (tempered with a little control and they will actually want to help you). Just don't overdo it, be cordial and thank eveyone who is trying to help (nobody wants to go out of their way -- do more than what is required -- for someone who is too far one way or the other.) Good luck, I sure hope your quilt makes it home safely. |
I once had them lose a box of mine also...about 15 years ago. I made clothes for a couple of my grandkids...enough for the whole summer....I was sick over that and I never did get it back. Sorry about your loss but maybe it's still early and you will get it.
Hate to say it, but be a thorn in their side. Make them find it to get you off of their backs. They obviously gave up way to easily because it is not big deal to them. I am sure they don't understand the heart that goes into one of these or they would look harder. Hope it works out for you!

My box was sent UPS 2nd Day air, signature required. They can't leave the package, they must get a signature. Besides, I know our UPS driver and he wouldn't leave it anywhere else; and he was driving the day it was supposed to be delivered. Thank you for your comments...I am hopeful. |
So sorry this has happened. Bug the heck out of UPS. Hoping you hear something soon.
So sorry you lost your quilt and hope you learn something about its return. I have heard you can get a "tracker" confirmation and know where it is along the way.
That is sooooo beautiful!!! I feel your pain. Please
keep us posted. |
Years ago I had to mail a wedding gown that I had made for a friend of mine. UPS told me then if I insured it for over $1000 that a supervisor had to sign off on it at every stop that it made. Still made me nervous but I sent anyway. It got there just fine, however I did not have any proof that it was signed off on at every stop. Just an FYI.

Don't give up!!
I've had so much trouble w/UPS, lost items, delivering to the WRONG address and that person actually bringing box to me, late deliveries, etc etc etc. I NEVER use UPS....only FedEX, or last choice the Postal service which is just about as reliable as UPS!
Aw, what a beautiful quilt! I am so sorry it is lost! Hopefully whoever recieves the package is honest and turns it back in, so you get it back!
Did you show them the picture? email it to them?
Did you ask for a signature on delivery? Did you tell them the possible $ value, even if you did not cover it for that? I think 10 days is NOT enough, but as someone else said, it might show up later. I sure hope so! TELL them it was accepted for the JURIED show and explain if they don't know what that means! You have to keep at it and make them do something and feel responsible. Bad PR works. Put an article in a local paper and then send it to them. UPS is here in Atlanta and we have issues with them all the time. FedEx was better but UPS has better customer service in my experience. |
Hi Janet,
I'm not sure I can add anything new, but I do have a suggestion. If your quilt was insured for a high $$ amount, use this as intimidation-----call, call, call..Go directly to the director or highest titled person available in the claims department. Tell your story about time and money and stress the insurance value of your soon to be filed claim. Tell them that you want your quilt and not the money and won't quit calling until it's found. Local people don't have the resources to do the kind of search that the head honcho does (I know since I came from the transportation industry) That director will fine tooth comb the search and pull out all the stops to keep from paying that claim! I am so sorry you have to go through this and I wish you luck in finding your beautiful artwork. |
Your quilt is lovely. I hope you locate it in time for the show. Good luck.
I would be a little leary on the fact that the package was never scanned, so will they even pay a claim? Is that another reason your not getting any head way here? Are they dragging their feet because they know you have no actual claim as there is no proof of it being received by them? I would demand to talk to the person who was suppose to have scanned it in. He/she would have scanned it in, and then when it gets to the next point, it would have been scanned then. So my thoughts would be..someone between those two would be responsible.
I am soooo sorry this has happened to you. Will pray that somehow it will show up.
In this age of computers someone has to know where that quilt is, there should be a tracking number on it and it should tell where has been and where it was delivered. I am with everyone else keep calling and bugging everyone at UPS. I hope you get it back it is beautiful and the work you did on it is wonderful. My daughter had a package deliverd to her once from federal express and she kept forgetting to report it and they tracked it thru the driver as to where he delivered it. So don't give up.
Do you have a local TV station that looks into things like this. I think one in Baltimore is called WBAL on your side. The one in D C is called 7 on your side. They will investigate how the loss was handled by UPS. I am at a loss as to what else you can do. Keeping fingers crossed you will recover the quilt.
I don't know if I could ever box a quilt and send it. Those people handling your shipment don't have a clue about the precious contents. It's just a package to them.
I would be their worst nightmare. Call every day and email those that you can't call. They will get sick of you and help you find your quilt. I'm so sorry for your loss of this quilt. The picture is beautiful.
Nag them. Keep Calling. Be the biggest pest you can be. Do you have the tracking number? That is the best place to start. Do not be afraid to keep calling them. Do not take NO for an answer. If the person you are taking to can't find your quilt then ask for a supervisor.
Keep up updated. I will pray UPS finds your quilt. |
Oh what a sad story! It makes me really not want to enter anything in a show for fear of loosing it in shipping. Your quilt is absolutely gorgeous and I do sooo hope you find it!
Please let us know when you get it back. It is too beautiful to be wondering around by itself. ♥
OMG gorgeous quilt!! Sure hope you find it!
Anytime I mail a quilt and they ask if I want it insured, I just say "no, it's just some clothes the grandkids left, or uncle john left his sweater" never tell them it's anything of value. I used to ship at the retail store where I worked and People would have boxes stolen off their porches when po or ups or whoever left it there. It's sad, but it's happening everywhere. That is a beautiful quilt and such a shame. I would start checking at flea markets where you live just in case and check the sale ads in the papers.

I had this happen with the USPS. I sent a quilt to my daughter, the post office said it had been deleivered, but she never got it. After 10 days of trying to deal with the post office I got the number to the public affair office. The next day there was a key in my daughter mail box to get her package out of the lower lock box. The quilt had been there the whole time, but the mailman forgot to put the key in her box. Why they couldn't have checked that 10 days earler I don't know, but sometimes you just have to go to the top to get anything done. Good Luck, I pray you will get it back. I know first hand how it feels to think someone else has your quilt!
I don't know if you could trust CO of the show or not, but I certainly would try. Also, I think you should notify UPS and the Law Enforcement people in that town. A word of advice: Next time you send something valuable, put a price on it # 1 and get a tracing number yourself and start tracing the next day. It will show you the exact route the quilt is taking. That way if it stops, they will know what driver or UPS station where it disappeared.
