The Denver local consumer advocate is Tom Martino on Fox31. His website is Martino.tv and his show phone number is 303-MARTINO. He is obnoxious but seems to get the job done. Good luck!
|
Can't tell you how sorry I am. I will share your picture and plea.
|
This may sound silly but try praying to St. Anthony (the patron saint of lost things).
|
I am so sorry hope you find it.

Your quilt is Beautiful!
Keep calling UPS, immediately have them open the case. That is ridiculous to close the issue so soon. Where was it being shipped from and to? Was it a long distance? Their tracking usually indicates each stop it makes along the route. So what happened between the last stop and the destination. I have not had good luck with UPS recently. I have had to place claims on several items in the last two months. One was a sewing machine that looked like it was dropped from the airplane to the tarmack. They paid for the service tech to check it out and the broken plastic cover and lost items in the storage compartment,,,some fell out when we opened the box. Last week we placed a claim on a weedeater. The entire box was open, both ends were open, all the small parts and paperwork were missing. Last month I ordered a large metal attachment to a miter bench, made of heavy steel. UPS did not ring the bell, but I saw him come to the door. Before I got there he was running to his truck....for good reason...the steel piece was poking through the torn box and was bent. It takes a lot of force to bend a heavy piece of steel. They picked it up and the manufacturer sent a new one.....I often wonder what happens to items that come out of boxes when they are trashed by UPS FED EX AND THE USPS.They just wind up in a Lost and found??? I think in the future I will pin my address, phone number and name to several places on my quilt... I am praying for its safe return to you....Please let us know how this turns out. Don't give up. They have to find it. D in TX |
Do not give up. I had a lost package with UPS, very, very expensive camera and accessories. As soon as I filed a claim the head of the security department arrived on my doorstep. Two men came in a black official looking car, I thought WOW! Amazing, after a few days they came back with my package! File the claim and contact the "Loss Department", they may be able to help you.

So sorry about your quilt. It's sad and must hurt to lose such a precious quilt. My son shipped 2 footlockers with his Army stuff, clothes, body armor etc. They were never found. All my husband fishing orders are either "lost" or open and empty, and no lures inside. Make a fuss with the "on you side" TV stations. I pray you get it back!!!
|
Beautiful quilt !! Can you get your newspaper to do any tiny story of this lost quilt and hope someone will have the heart to return if it's found ? Sure hope it get's returned...
|
Janet, here is a link to a website that lists lost quilts (unbelievable how many there are!!!) You just never know who may discover your quilt and help to get it back to you safely. http://lostquilt.com/ I remember 2 different quilt shop owners telling me that they had display quilts stolen!! This is just unimaginable.

Several years ago i rec'd a package through UPS and the box was sort of messed up and taped when I open the box their was a VCR tape and a beautiful large linen tablecloth in the box with my things and I called UPS and told them that these items were not mine and they that they had no record of these items missed but if they did they would contact me never heard another word after several calls to them I gave up and watch the VCR (Good Movie) and about 3 years later I used the tablecloth at Christmas I felt back about you did not get their items but what could I do. Hope and Pray that you find your quilt I know that I would sick over something like that

Another thought after reading Jean's post. It would be time consuming but what if you run a 'LOST quilt' ad in the lost and found section of Craigs list between where you are and the destination of your quilt? If someone ended up with your quilt by mistake they may have it or be able to help you get some answers. Again, time consuming but you never know.
|
I know this is a great loss and I would also be irate too, then try to look at the other side and that someone has one of your original quilts whom will cherish it forever. Guessing where ever you shipped it from may have it if you talked about it. Next time take out a hugh value on insurance.

I was told that if you use a UPS store, and buy extra insurance like they ask you, it really isn't insured for that amount. I didn't understand that, if you paid for extra insurance. I don't like how UPS just leaves the box on your porch. I sure hope you get your beautiful quilt back. BUG THEM REAL LOUD.

I am so sorry! I pray that you will locate your beautiful quilt!

"Put the manager on the phone now!" That is what you say to anyone you speak with at UPS. Do not give up. Keep calling!
|
Janet did you file a report with your local police dept? If not go do it!! They will go to UPS to inform them of your action and that might light a fire under them to start looking for it harder!! I would also file a complaint with the better business bureau against UPS. Last but not least..write a letter to the editor of your local paper about it. UPS won't like the negative attention they are getting..when all else fails I would stand in front of their building with a sign with lemons on it that says "UPS service has left a sour taste in my mouth!!"
By any chance did you put the word 'quilt' anywhere on the outside of the box? My postmaster told me to never ever do that!! It is a red flag for theives. He said NOT all postal employees are honest. Especially at the holidays when they hire extra help. My son moved a few months ago and his wife was driving by their old house one day after work and noticed that there we 2 big boxes on the front porch of their old house. She stopped and they were my son's t-shirts he had ordered. He designs his own Christian shirts. They had the new street address...they had lived there for several years so the UPS driver was used to just delivering to that address. Guess he didn't bother to look at the new address and just left them sitting on the porch. Good thing my DIL saw them or they could have walked away. Good luck and I do hope it is returned to you..Linda B. |
"PUT THE MANAGER ON THE PHONE NOW!" That is what you say to whomever you speak with at UPS. Do NOT give up! Keep calling and calling!

I'm so sorry - I haven't read through all the messages, so maybe this was already asked, but did you take out insurance? I know it doesn't compensate for all your hard work and sentimental value, but at least it's a start.
|
oh Janet, I'm so sorry to hear that,..I always have that scenario in the back of my head...these things are non-replaceable! hope it turns up soon
|
What a beautiful, beautiful quilt. I have insured my quilts for $2,000 to $3,000 when shipping UPS and am always concerned. I haven't had trouble - but this board is making me real concerned about using them for sure. I WOULD NOT use USPS for any reason - they delivered a quilt of a friend to a warehouse and have it on record, but wouldn't do a darn thing about it. Basically took a "so what" attitude even thou they KNEW they were wrong. I too am amongst those who hope you recover your quilt.
|
So very sorry of your quilts being missing from shipping. I can only pray you get it back soon.
|
So sorry for your tragedy. Hope they find it real soon.
|
I would also be heart broken. All of that work and a part of your life is gone. I hope they find it. Wheee do things go when they are lost at the post office? Keep at them until they are sick of seeing you and hearing from you!!
|
I am praying for your quilt. That sounds funny, but God located my beautiful diamond ring after 6 months of crying, looking and begging Him. He is the same today as He was then... He KNOWS where that beautiful quilt is...
Honey, if you dont get it back it is because HE had a use for it other than yours. Small consolation for your loss I know, but trust Him to know what is best for us... My heart broke when I read your post... praying really hard. Huggs |
LMB you are so right and sometimes we do not understand what his reason is but he knows

Many companies now employ people to check out the web for bad publicity about them. You, your friends, your relatives, get on some quilting blogs, twitter, etc, and start complaining about the run around UPS is giving you. Make their (corporate) life miserable. In today's economy no company can afford to lose customers due to bad PR. Perhaps this will light a fire under a responsible butt.
|
I am so sorry about that beautiful quilt of yours gone missing. I agree that it is somewhere out there and someone must know someting. Lets hope you can not only find it but, find it in time. I have wanted to send a guilt to a friend in Denmark, for well over a year now but am not at all sure how the safest way to go about it, or which carrier to trust. I know DHL overseas is good but unsure about any of the others.
Also who ever told you to pray to St. Anthony, is right on the money, I ask for his help from time to time and he alwsays comes through for me. |
I know this sadness. Something similar happened to our family after a trip to Alaska. My DH had been fishing and we shipped (not UPS, the other one) One hundred pounds of halibut and salmon back. When we checked for the shipment, someone else had signed for it (not even with our name)and there was not anything they could do. The shipment was marked fresh seafood, and someone told us later that that happens all the time. Lesson learned: Not everyone is honest, and NEVER put on your package what is in it. So sorry.
|
I am heartsick for you. I really hope you are able to find it. Best of luck!!! Keep us posted. I'm sure there are plenty of people on here that would like to know the outcome. I hope it's a positive one.
|
How heartbreaking. I cannot imagine how devastated you must feel.
Use Tom Martino if you are in CA. Heck, write Oprah's people and maybe they will do a show on it. Never hurts to ask. Make a stink about it. Don't give up or stop. Good luck. |
So sorry for your loss but I sincerely hope that it's found even if it's not in time for Paducah. You did such a beautiful job.
Good luck, Kutnso |

Thanks, everyone for your support and encouragement. This board is great.
I have some progress - our local consumer advocate is getting involved. She's planning to do a story in our local paper on Thursday. She has a good track record of solving problems like this. Keep your fingers crossed! Janet |
Hope you insured it to the max. I would try to contact the person highest up at UPS. 10 days to close on tracking is just crazy. I will sure be thinking twice before I use UPS again hope everyone else will be to if this is the kind of service they offer.
|
Janet:
I've got my fingers crossed, my eyes crossed, my legs crossed. If I could cross anything else I'd do it for you. I can't wait to hear of the good news that it has been found and returned to you!!! Best of luck! Quote:

Keep calling and complaining to the company. The squeeky wheel gets the grease. I really hope you can get this quilt back, it is beautifully done.
|
Great idea. I am praying that it is returned to you.
