Oh I cann't imagine what you must be going through. I cann't believe that UPS closed the case or that they lost a large box like the one carrying a quilt. I would still put some kind of pressure on them to locate the box. I hope you find it very soon.

Eileen 03-15-2011 06:31 PM

I'm so sorry about the missing quilt. It's beautiful.

I would ask the person who shipped it to fax you the shipping documentation that it was shipped. If they cannot produce the documation that it was shipped, they are responsible for the quilt & I would have them pay you the value of the quilt. I know that it doesn't replace the quilt, but it's some compensation.

fktsewing 03-15-2011 06:42 PM

Ok, keep hounding UPS---I work with them daily as we ship to retail stores. DO NOT let them tell you that they cannot find it---make them prove where it was the last time they have record of it---have you tried going to UPS.com and tracking the number? That should also help. Someone out there has it---I also agree with BellaBoo---let UPS know that you are going to call the news stations and newspapers--they won't like the bad publicity at all. Do not talk to regualar employees, ask for supervisor and keep going as high as you have to. Keep us informed. If you want my help, pm me and I will see what I can do.

Debby54 03-15-2011 06:48 PM

Call them everyday, it keeps your issue at the top of this list and they also will realize that it is very important to you.
Try to get to speak with a manager and also take the time to call there corporate offices.
The quilt is gorgeous and I hope that it finds its way back to you very soon

Faiwee 03-15-2011 06:53 PM

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I completly agree with everyone else. Keep calling UPS. Do not give up. Keep the person on the Phone until they get you the next person up the chain of command.
I hope your quilt comes back to you.

I agree. Keep at it until you get to someone who will not simply chaulk it off!

Grandma Peg 03-15-2011 06:59 PM

So sorry to hear about this. Hope and pray it is found. What a beautiful quilt!

lue 03-15-2011 07:09 PM

Threaten to go to the media about UPS's behavior. That gets their attention if you threaten/promise at high enough levels! Here's hoping!

quiltingnana1 03-15-2011 07:12 PM

Praying it finds its way home to you soon.

kewlquilts 03-15-2011 07:24 PM

I'm so sorry your quilt is lost. I'll pray and hope it finds it's way home to you.

Judie 03-15-2011 07:30 PM

I had a box go missing too one time. I don't have a clue where it went, but it did come back..

Another time I actually put an old address on a package to a girl friend in another state.. they delivered the package, but was told that person wasn't there.. then it was gone. but it to showed up.. somehow someone found the correct address and it did get delivered.. I'm not sure how.. this is a crazy world, and crazy things happen..

I'm hoping in the next day or so your beautiful quilt will find it's way to where it is supposed to be... They usually do.. I just hope it's soon enough..

keep us posted.

Judie 03-15-2011 07:34 PM

Go to the office that you shipped it from in PERSON. it's much harder to brush off a person standing in front of you than one on the phone.. talk to a supervisor.. or his supervisor.. don't go away until you get someone to who will try to figure out what happened.. They don't "lose" boxes.. they're whole business is making sure boxes are delieverd.. it's someplace, they just haven't put in enough effort to find it yet.

shirleyd 03-15-2011 07:36 PM

What a beautiful quilt! How tragic to lose it and I wish you the best in retrieving it. Maybe since it's just been one month, it may still be found. I hope we hear back from you that it's been found!!!

Lv2sew2011 03-15-2011 07:43 PM

Thats what I was going to suggest...Call the local news stations and see if they can help! We have a station here in Oklahoma that helps people resolved there issues with business, cause they sure don't like bad publicity...

Cookie64 03-15-2011 07:57 PM

Sorry to hear this Janet, It is a beautiful quilt. Twice this has happened to me, I called and they couldn't do anything and my son checked and ask questions and it was found in the back room and had been in the town it was going to. It was there for two weeks. Also I heard on the news people go behind the truck and when they drop off the package someone goes behind them and picks them up.

wow, so sorry to hear this. Sorry to hear how often mail theft is happening now. It is getting out of control.

wraez 03-15-2011 08:12 PM

Your quilt is gorgeous, simply beautiful and I understand your angst and pain!

I see that you have 12 pages of responses and hope that someone can help you.

I know there is a website where you can post your lost or stolen quilt but I don't know the name of it, hopefully you have already gotten your quilt OR someone has given you the website to post about your quilt

sincere best wishes to you for finding this awesome creation

warm quilt hugs, sue in CA

Gerbie 03-15-2011 08:15 PM

I agree get the news out not only to local news, but Nationally Get a pic. of it on Fox News, I realize not everyone watches them or agrees with them, but they are a GREAT source for getting into the mix of things they have so many sources to check things out - much better than the other networks it seems. That being said, they may get UPS on the ball. No business likes to be put on the bad list so to speak and usually get after what ever needs to be done when they are getting a lot of bad publicity.
I am so sorry for you I can feel your pain with all the work. A beautiful quilt. If the driver didn't scan it right then, I am wondering about the driver. Apparently the quilt never arrived at a dispatch area. Maybe the driver should be checked out. That quilt just didn't vanish into thin air.
Please keep us updated.
I have a treasure that I would like to have done by a LA but I have the fear that something might happen in transit to it. My great grandmother made the quilt top, and it could never be replaced.

wraez 03-15-2011 08:16 PM

You might even consider contacting the Post Master General in Washington, explaining the situation and including a photo explaining the quilt's importance to you in detail.... the time it took to make, the cost of materials and how valuable it is to you and the whole quilting community.

connie d 03-15-2011 08:20 PM

That is so sad. I'm sorry for your loss. I really hope it turns up soon. I do hope you had it insured??

Birdena 03-15-2011 08:20 PM

Oh my Janet, my heart is breaking for you too. I pray you will find your quilt.

grugirl 03-15-2011 08:22 PM

Here is the site I believe was referred to: http://lostquilt.com/

People actually recover their quilts many times.
Good luck to you.

wraez 03-15-2011 08:29 PM

Janet I see that you have already posted your missing quilt at the lost quilt website... I hope this will help you recover your quilt, in the event that it doesn't show up by USPS.

grugirl 03-15-2011 08:35 PM

Yes, I see she did. Good job on that Janet. I am sending hope your way

Dee 03-15-2011 08:40 PM

I feel very sorry and can feel your pain. Pray its found.

Momsmurf 03-15-2011 08:44 PM

My goodness!

I would not stop communication with UPS...I would send a communication to the CEO outlining your experience.... maybe with a cc to the supervisor in charge of shipping or tracking.

They have to know where it is....everything they handle is barcoded and scanned on arrival and departure from wherever it lands.

Do you know where it "went missing"? Someone has the tracking number and if you can get it and plug it into the UPS tracking site you will get a clear log of it's handling.

Hope you get it back soon!

Gerbie 03-15-2011 08:58 PM

I just went to the lost quilt site, and your quilt is the first one on the page giving a description and other pertinent info. Sure hope you find it. I think we should all bookmark that site and check it out fairly often in case we see one we might recognize somewhere, and not even know it is missing by the true owner. There are so many quilt shows all over and someone may try and pawn one off as their own.
I also printed out the Quiltmaker's Documentation page, which I think I will make several copies of and use them for all of my quilts. I have photos of almost all of the quilts I have made so far. Not of all of the UFO's but of all that I have finished. I make sure I label all, and there is a hint on this site about putting your name somewhere besides on just the label. Some really good pointers on this site.

UPS is so unfeeling about this. Can I post it on my facebook? I want people to know how UPS treated you, maybe that would get them to pay attention to your missing package?

HeatherS 03-15-2011 09:48 PM

My heart would break too, if I had a quilt as beautiful as that missing. I do hope someone can help you recover it.

irenecarter 03-15-2011 09:51 PM

So sorry that such things happen in this world. It is a gorgeous quilt. Like someone said, pray to St.Anthony.
He always comes through.
:St. Anthony, patriot of lost and found please bring Hitherland's quilt around. St. Anthony, St. Anne, return her quilt as fast as you can."

ljorange 03-15-2011 10:38 PM

What a shame. Don't give up though. UPS once dropped a big bos in our yard. It wasn't for us but had our address. I called them and they said they'd send someone to pick it up but nobody ever came. A week or so later I heard some new neighbors outside with their new baby and on a hunch asked them if they had been expecting a package. They had been and it was their's.

Just in case St. Anthony needs some help, I put it on my FB page so all my friends could see the original quilt and help keep an eye out for it. :)

It'd be nice if a lot of us did that.

(I'm not Catholic, so I've never prayed to St. Anthony for anything in my life..)

This has also happened in our family!

Sister in law UPS a quilt to our neice at her dorm. It was never received.

A friend UPS a quilt to my daughter in North Carolina. Never found!

Thanks for the "lost quilt site" I will talk to them and see if we can recover at least one. The one mailed to my neice would be too late since it happened 30yrs ago.

I have a couple quilts to send to my nephews in Florida and I am "antsy" about doing it!

Gleniveve 03-16-2011 04:39 AM

Hi there, So sorry that someone has done this to you. I feel that seeing your beautiful lost quilt on TV would be the best thing to do if you can arrange that. It is outstanding and would be easily recognisable by anyone who reads this post or watches TV. It could even have been given as a gift to some unsuspecting person. This is not the sort of quilt that could be hidden easily and I feel that publicity would be the best thing to bring it back to you. Best of luck to you, we all feel your pain.LoL.

atvrider 03-16-2011 04:58 AM

I am so sorry. Hopefully with all of us praying for you it will turn up. It's a really beautiful quilt.

Hinterland 03-16-2011 05:03 AM

I am getting more hopeful. I received a call from UPS last night. I do believe they will make a determined effort to look for the quilt today.

Thank you for all your prayers and good thoughts. Things are looking up!

Janet

How much extra would you pay to have a quilt delivered by courier?

I'm praying you get your quilt back.
