Oh...how horrid.
I know this can't replace the quilt, work and love you put into it.
But...they are insured against this kind of things.....

DH's sister had to buy their mom 48 pairs of underwear when she was in the nursing home, they kept disappearing. When another patient was out the staff would go in mom's room and get some.

I was going to make a lap quilt for a nursing home facility that a group I belong to paid to have the room furniture set up. Then I began to think.... my quilt in one of their wash loads .... hot hot hot hot water.... decided not to make the quilt for that room. Gave it to my brother in law last night... he loves it.

I am a retired RN Supervisor. I have had new, expensive shoes belonging to a resident come up missing. One night, at 2 AM, a nursing assistant took her shoes off because her feet hurt. I noticed that they were marked inside, very clearly, with the resident's name! That same family bought another pair of SAS shoes, this time marking on the thick rubber sole on the outside of the shoes. Within one week, a repeat performance, shoes are again gone! Less than a week later, another CNA came in to work with new, white SAS shoes. The rubber soles had heavy black magic marker scribbles on them. She claimed that her kids did it to her own new shoes! It was clearly an attempt to disguise the name of the real owner, but was not discernible enough to be legal proof. She got away with this sad, petty crime against a vulnerable elderly lady! Those missing quilts, comforters and robes often go home with unscrupulous staff, along with equipment! I went to a yard sale near our facility and saw a wheel chair for sale that was clearly marked with the facility's name. The seller claimed she "found it" in her yard!!!!

Things tend to 'disappear' in nursing facilities. Aunt Rose 'lost' her cherished wedding ring.
