I tried my first Mariners Compass tonight. Tried a different method. It's called the three D fabric folded Mariners. It took me about 15 minutes to cut it out and about a half hour to assemble it. It will take less now that I know what I'm doing. What do you think of it. I'm going to add a border to square it up and use some beads to embellish it. I can't wait to try the 32 point one.

I found the pattern at www.phillipsfiberart.com/ Typed in bargello and picked patterns and it's about half way down the page. I always wanted to make a mariners compass and this was a wonderful and easy pattern.

Your Mariner's Compass is beautiful. I have one on my Eagle quilt that was my avatar for month's. You said you got your pattern from "Phillip's Fibre Arts" and it was really easy. Mine was done from WedgeWorks 3D Mariner's Compass by Cheryl Phillips and the tool is included in the book. Of course now that I've reread what I wrote, I wonder if it is the same person/people.

That is a beauty! I love the fabrics you chose, the two plainish ones tone so perfectly with the middle one. Your embellishment idea is great, can't wait to see the finished piece. :-D

Fabulous! Have done a Quiltsmart Mariners Compass which was super easy / newbie friendly but this looks doable as well. The website has a short video demonstrating the technique. Very nice.

Absolutely gorgeous. Your colors are great. I have wanted to do a Mariner's Compass and the quilt shop I go to is having a class but it won't work with my schedule so I'll have to go look at the pattern and see if I can figure it out myself.
