In 12 step recovery it is taught to pray for people who've harmed you, that the person is spiritually sick. She is likely so into herself about worries about deployed daddy, that she doesn't realize what she says can be hurtful. I think just telling him what the thought behind it is when she can hear may be important, not for you but for her.

I worked harder keeping the panel from getting wonky than I did on his other "real" quilts! Kinda hoping he likes it just cause his tomater is on it. do any of you feel it is crappy to use a panel? I used the world on the back so when he is older, or now, he can look at the map and know his dad Army-deployed, is There.

It sounds like a quilt your grandson will love. Mum doesn't have to, it's not for her. She obviously has no idea how much thought and work goes into every quilt any one makes.

That IS a real quilt! It doesn't matter that it is a panel. Why should anyone feel crappy about a panel quilt? I think his mom has joined a bad version of the quilt police, LOL. Shake it off, and make whatever kind of quilt that YOU want to.
Your grandson will treasure it. warm quilt hugs, sue in CA |
I agree-the quilt isn't for her! How rude of her to even say that. You are working hard on something for your grandson. I think it's sweet. Little boys don't care what pattern you use-he will love having Cars on there!! I know my little boys would. :)

Not crappy idea to use a panel,
Crappy idea to insult you by claiming this isn't a real quilt. |
Do you think she might consider a twin sized quilt a real quilt? I make a lot of panel kids quilts and some of them, I spend hours on...quilting around all the small figures etc. But the panel quilts are usually smaller even with added borders. I was just wondering if she was thinking a "real" quilt would be bed size?

wow i think she spoke before she thought , unless she is just rude !! you should of let her know that you put just as much time and love in this quilt as you would of any other quilt you would make for him and that the only thing that counts is that HE likes it , no one else

I use panels all the time just use other blocks around it or a fancy border treatment! I'm sure your grandson will love it! :-D
