Yes, I have a terrible time quilting if the room is messy. I have too much stash and too many books on the floor. Hard to work with all the distractions.

Mine goes from slightly disfunctional to total chaos when I am cleaning other rooms and find sewing/craft related items and then put them in my sewing room. Notice I did not say I put them away at that time. If I do not get to that room soon, eeegads!

Mine is a mess when I am working on a project. If I leave UFO's out, it is distracting so have them put in a box in order of importance to be finished.

I never thought of the layer method as an archeologist thing-LOVE that way of thinking!

Just like my kitchen....It's gotta be clean. It gets kinda messy sometimes while I'm in the thick of the project. But then, I clean it up and get going on the next.

My sewing room does not know how to be un-messy. It lives that way.

Actually the clutter bothers me, but when I need to spread out, I have to go to the dining table or the queen bed anyway. I don't have any 'spreading-out-room" in the sewing room. I'm OK if I can find the stuff I need. )(((wink)))))

nope dont bother me but I have to confess i have a room only with a fabric mess my sewingroom is in the front of the house  so ine there I have only the quilts I work on

My problem is that I cannot keep it clean-- I pull out fabrics then don't put them away-- or I work on a project and keep it clean as I work. Haven't seen the top of the work area for ages.... argh

I read that Clutter can effect your personal health and is a gauge to your mental health, which makes sense to me. I suffer from depression (hormonal, seasonal.. etc) and when I am feeling depressed, I don't have the energy to do anything, except lose myself in my computer, which drives me nuts because I really hate clutter....

Here is a link to a great article:

But, when I am immersed in sewing projects I do leave things out where I can get to them, like the ironing board and cutting table.... still bothers me but is tolerable... ha ha

Thanks so much for the link. I did go through a deep depression several months ago and have de-cluttered, cleaned every room except the sewing room. I kind of ran out of steam but will take a suggestion on this board and start small at clearing it up. I think the best way is to start at the door of my sewing room and work my way around the walls. I love the way the other rooms look and enjoy being in them.
