DonnaRae,
I didn't realize that you were having surgery but I'm so glad everything is fine.

DonnaRae 01-05-2008 04:37 PM

Minda, I had the surgery right before Christmas. I was a kind of quiet about it, Wasn't sure how things were going to turn out. Christmas and New Years was recuperating time. Thanks for thinking of me and Norah thank you too!

Mine's done!! The fabric marker I had was way too fine to work, so I bought others today at Wal-Mart--and it was much better. I even found a blue one!! :D

This was fun to make. Now I need her address.

I don't know Sharon, but she sounds like a most wonderful person.

PS--the picture doesn't do it justice at all--the dark blue has tiny precious rosebuds.

live2teach 01-06-2008 03:10 PM

PamH 01-06-2008 05:50 PM

I finished my block but since I don't have a digital camera, I will post it when I finish my roll of film.
Thanks again Wendy for getting this started. Not only a good and thoughtful gift for Sharon and Roy, it gave me a chance to do a block I had never done before.
Thanks again

Pam

Here's my thoughts on that:

I think if anyone is making two blocks (cause we need MORE!!!) and you simply signed the first block, you could right a simple message, a quote, bible verse etc on the second. Or leave it blank if you wish.

Thanks to all who have already contributed! Keep them coming (to Sharon and Roy.)

Okay... I ran into a problem.. I have not been back to this thread since the beginning.. It said blue and white blocks.. I did not have the white so my block is in blue.. I have seen how everyone has signed them but I do not think I should.. I was just going to leave it blank.. Do you think this one is okay to send or should I get some white and make another?

quiltmaker101 01-07-2008 12:32 PM

How about if you get some white and make a second block to sign and send along with this one?

DonnaRae 01-07-2008 12:53 PM

Dawn, yeah that's a good idea to make another block. Some of us are making two anyway to be sure she is going to have enough to make a bed size quilt. But your block is pretty!

DonnaRae 01-07-2008 01:25 PM

Loretta, I believe Wendy is handling that, but if I recall somewhere earlier in this post a couple of days ago there were only 28 blocks. So definitly need more. But again Wendy will have to keep us updated I think. Right Wendy :?:

Diamonds 01-07-2008 01:25 PM

Okay.. Will pick up some white tomorrow.. That is a good idea to do two anyway.. It would be nice for her to have enough for a bed quilt.. I will embroidery the other block on the second one..

quiltmaker101 01-07-2008 01:47 PM

Okay - here is the total so far, based on my PMs and the people who have said yes on this post but have not PMd me yet:

38! We are getting closer! I only know of 3 people who said they were making 2, and those have been counted!

I have to say it has been a good turnout so far!! If you liked this block a lot, and have the time, send another one to Sharon! You can leave it blank for her to fill in or embroider on.

I will keep you updated. My head is swimming with names right now from counting!

All the Blocks are looking lovely and it is a fine way to show Sharon that we care and are thinking about her and done in a way that the overseas people like myself could be involved in too, a great idea. Here is mine, will be mailing today, but might take a couple of weeks to get there.

Diamonds:
Your block is JUST GREAT! I don't think you need to make another one with white...You have some light blue in your block IF YOU CHOSE to write you name or something that would be fine but if you didn't, that's fine too. Send the block, Sharon and Roy will love it and they will appreciate your effort.

Minda 01-07-2008 06:02 PM

Diamonds,
I agree with Feathers. Your block is great. If you want to sign it, you could do it in the light blue area. All of the blocks are different in some way. Yours fits right in! :D

Feathers 01-07-2008 06:04 PM

OK, You Wonderful Quilters:
ALL YOUR BLOCKS look wonderful...I'd like to stop the mail to retrieve mine and have an overies...opps, I mean sm over-zee to make mine better so they go with all of yours. Great job you guys! All of you. If "ya'll" (I learned that when I lived in Tennessee) would like to make anymore practice blocks, I can send you my addy and let you know my colors!

Diamonds, your block is really beautiful! Nice fabrics! You have to autograph it! That way Sharon will know it's from you! Even your initials in a corner. Don't you dare mess up that pretty thing! LOL! I doubt you could. Really pretty block! KUDOS! I love it!

Chele 01-07-2008 07:21 PM

Snowb and ShellyQ, you guys amaze me! Perfect piecing and extra touches. You know Sharon will be so thrilled. Did you send Kleenex with those blocks? They are so pretty! :D :D :D

DonnaRae 01-07-2008 07:49 PM

Diamonds, How about Silver or Gold ink for a signature in the middle block. That would be really pretty.

I did try that  It has Diamonds on the back in the center block... Definately not what I thought it would look like. :( .. I was very relieved I did not try it on the front first...

DonnaRae~~ Sorry to hear you had to go through cancer sugery, but please know that cancer is no longer a death sentence. A lot has been learned since those days. I, too, have had cancer...mine was the vocal chords. I had my first surgery for it in 1995, then it stayed dormant (it was in the membrane, but wasn't spreading) until 2001. I took both chemo and radiation for 7 weeks. I have since had some basal cell cancers removed from my hand and wrist. My medical oncologist dismissed me in June, 2007. I still see my surgeon every 4 months, but I'm cancer free.

I refused to read all the info that well-meaning friends sent me about cancer, but instead watched funny movies and shows and laughed. In fact, sometimes I had my doctor's in stitches. I was never sick from the chemo, although toward the end of treatments I was really tired. However, I finished treatments in Aug., 2001 and we took the grandkids to Disney World in Oct. and I rode every ride. I had also gotten a total knee replacement in Jan., 2001 so that was a memorable year for me even without 9/11.

Take care of yourself.

On The Go: How uplifting your story is. I hope if I'm ever faced with something so scary I have your spirit, outlook and positivity. You go, girl!

Chele, Thank-you so much for the compliment. If I were in Sharon's shoes, I would probably need a whole carton of kleenex. LOL :!: It is amazing with the same pattern & color scheme, how different & beautiful the blocks all look.

Minda, your blues are stunning  . Thanks Chele, I'm not very good with words in this sort of situation so it's real nice to be able to do a little something for her.

I know I said I probably wouldn't make a block to send. I have been having lots of tension problems on one machine. REALLY, the main reason is I hate to put my amateur work up against you pros. WOW! There are some beautiful blocks posted on here.

But since there may not be enough to make a quilt, I made this one and I guess I'll send it.
