NO they do not cut the mats. It doesn't even leave a mark. They cut like a hot knife through butter.

My HFT doesn't have the correct blades. What types of blades did you say they were and how much were they? The ones I saw today were 9.99 and up and had little funny edges on them.
Maybe I am looking at the wrong blades.[/quote]

Yup you are looking at the wrong thing. On page 2 or so is a picture of the package. Hope this helps.

That's too bad, because mine cuts so smoothly. I know someone who put 2 blades into the cutter and didn't realize it .. and they wouldn't but nice. Maybe you could check to see if you accidentally did that?

Went to 2 stores in the west area of Phoenix, they didn't have and knew nothing about them. We looked high and low.

Can anyone tell me where I can purchase these blades in Canada

grandme26 08-17-2010 04:10 PM

Thanks for the laugh.

Does Harbor Freight sell online?
I glanced at the Internet and saw
where I could find a store (quite a
few miles away) but no online sales.
Might have missed it.
Should anyone have such an address,
please let me and the rest of us know.

medots 08-17-2010 04:44 PM

Here is the web page, I just ordered they are on back order.http://www.harborfreight.com/

Our HF store had only 45's ,2 in a pk. for $1.49. The kicker was they were located in the paint area on a wall display. I gave mine to a fabric shop to see how they work and in 4 days there was already occasional skips. So maybe a good deal...maybe not.

Yesterday we were in WM and I made a point to go see how much blades were in there $4.59 for ONE BLADE. That's ridiculous - at the most it's about .0000001¢ worth of steel. Talk about majorly ripping people off.

A few people keep asking about whether these blades will cut the mat. Now really, I don't GET that question. If the blade is dull enough to not mar the mat, it's too dull to use. And my mat is showing lots of wear and tear before I ever even heard of these HF blades (this is the BIG white mat from Joanns) Haven't tried cutting on a green or grey mat yet.

what you need to do is get rid of that white mat ! they dull
your blades. bought 1 pkg of blades, works great. DH measured them & there is only 2 thousandths of an inch difference in the thickness. (hope I said that right). the hole in the middle is different but can't see where that matters.

wraez 08-17-2010 05:42 PM

My hubby went to HF yesterday and they were completely sold out and said there were none in the warehouse nationwide for back order!

There is one more near us but I don't want to drive all the way over there and keep forgetting to call to see if they have any in the store.

Can you believe it! Sold out nationwide?

BeSue 08-17-2010 06:23 PM

The HFT store in Tallahassee, FL has the blades in stock I called tonight. I live 60 miles from there and they won't ship from their store so I am out of luck.

OHSue 08-17-2010 07:06 PM

I bought some of those suction cup ruler holders at HFT. They were in the automotive department, used for putting in windshields. I think it was less than $8. I also got one of the smaller ones for 2.99, but can't remember where that was at in the store, it wasn't near the big one.

lnikkers52 08-17-2010 07:09 PM

Well we don't have a HF here . But surely there must be other palces that sell these blades. Does any one know where these places are?

sosewcrazy 08-17-2010 07:19 PM

I'd never heard of Harbor Freight until I read about it on this site. I've already bought so much to use for quilting - all ideas from all of you! I was just there today and picked up the last pack of blades. Haven't tried them out in my rotary cutter yet.

Annya 08-17-2010 07:23 PM

I have just printed the picture out and will email it to my daughter in Brisbane and ask her if she will check Bunnings near her to see they have the blades. If so you will be told for all our Australian friends. Wish us luck.

Mary M 08-17-2010 07:28 PM

Gee I wish a few would have been left for the rest of us.:(

hspirit_99 08-17-2010 08:19 PM

i did a search and found this site

http://www.nextag.com/carpet-blades/products-html

Colbaltjars62 08-17-2010 09:28 PM

But it sends you to the Harbor Freight site where they are on backorder.... lol
My best friends hubby has a carpet business, I'm going to call tomorrow and see if he has any idea where else we can look.
Until tomorrow!!!
:XD:

mimiknoxtaylor 08-18-2010 03:53 AM

A couple of other places on the web for rotary blades: www.sewingpalace.com they have 45mm blades, 5 for $12.95 with free shipping.
www.southstarsupply.com 10 pk of 45mm for $17.95

I did order some from Harbor Freight yesterday after going to Joann's & getting a 2pk for $6. (that was with my 40% off!)

desertdebbe 08-18-2010 05:17 AM

Here is another place to buy inexpensive blades. http://www.threadart.com/shop/category.asp?catid=146

I've been very happy with them.

Donnasue 08-18-2010 05:28 AM

Smitty, I use the green mat. It is honestly awesome, and I use a "scrubby" that you use in the shower to keep it smooth. I have had mine over a year now and have cut lots of material on it. Hope that helps in your next purchase of a mat.

I got the little one also. I found it where the handles for the bathtubs were.

Pam S 08-18-2010 06:57 AM

Ladies, do you realize what we might be doing to the price of carpet installation? Once they realize that quilters who are used to paying much more for the blades are snapping them up, they will raise the prices to fabric store levels, carpet installers will find the price up and they in turn will double the price of installation to pass on the increase to us. So I say be forewarned and order that new carpet now before the installation cost goes sky high!

Colbaltjars62 08-18-2010 07:07 AM

Oh Pam too funny!!!
:XD:

Jere 08-18-2010 08:50 AM

I bought the last 3 packages from my local store. The clerk who helped me said his daughter was a quilter too.

wraez 08-18-2010 09:19 AM

Has anyone wondered if other hardware stores carry these carpet cutter blades?

Seems to me that they might be available at other locations.

I am going to do a search online to see if Home Depot, Lowes, or any of those places carry them.

warm quilt hugs, sue in CA

sewmuchmore 08-18-2010 10:20 AM

I find out that we have a HF store in Macon that is about 40 mile. Hurray!!!!!

BZ quilting 08-18-2010 11:57 AM

brookemarie19 08-18-2010 12:44 PM

You can buy online at http://www.HarborFreight.com

gramblue 08-18-2010 01:21 PM

Yes, I placed my order yesterday, and apparently, it went thru. They never said one word about any backorder. I guess I will just wait and see if I get them.
