Can you imagine what is going on about the blades we bought from HFT? They are on backorder and probably have no idea why they had such a run on them. They reordered and hoped to sell more, but we are all stacked up for a while and now they are sitting on shelves collecting dust. They have to reorder fromChina. They were such hot cakes, why are they not selling now? Imagine the repercussion of all of this!

Now that 80% of members on this board have already bought some of those blades from HFT my husband started giggling. Can you use pizzacutter blades and can you use those? Can we? How much are they? Carpet layers cannot do their work as they cannot get their blades replaced and then we won't be able to get any pizzas either for lack of cutters.
What a blast!

so funny!

mrspete 08-15-2010 07:37 PM

HA HA HA HA, now there's a thought! I went Saturday and bought six packs. That is all our's had and they didn't know where they were. I had to hunt for them. Young and dumb, and didn't care for texting. I could have been a terrorist and they wouldn't have noticed. I don't think there was but one mature person in that store. I took all they had and probably would have taken more if they'd had them. No one even cared, can you believe, no one. And, probably still in the blind. That's good for us, though.

Blessings,
Ruth

JudyG 08-15-2010 07:59 PM

As soon as they realize it's quilters buying them, they'll raise the price.

jayelee 08-15-2010 08:04 PM

Probably I bought six packs on Friday at our Harbor Freight store the clerk did ask me if I needed a cutter to go with them.

tcnmom 08-15-2010 09:14 PM

I called the HF near me yesterday but the girl that answered didn't know what she was looking for and told me that they had them and the price was $3.49 for 1. I called today and the man knew what I was talking about and looked but they were all sold out. I called the store on the other side of town and he didn't even look, he said they were out and asked if I was using the blades for fabric. So the word about the blades, spread like fire.

fabric-holic 08-16-2010 02:49 AM

I guess I missed the other thread about rotary blades being cheaper at Harbor Freight.
Do they sell different sizes?
I usually only buy the 60mm.
I'll have to go over there and buy some.

bsquilter 08-16-2010 02:56 AM

I bought mine yesterday. Today, I will give them a try.

NanaJan 08-16-2010 03:14 AM

I got mine on Friday. They had 5 packs and I bought 4 of them--figured I'd leave one in case a carpet cutter needed one fast! lol They worked great!

BarbaraTX 08-16-2010 05:17 AM

Last week I went to our HF, which happens to be right next to Hancock Fabrics, and the ones they had in the right size had saw teeth. Would someone scan and post the package for me? Thanks so much.

Omg, I can't stop laughing! HAHAHAHAHAHA

JJs 08-16-2010 05:33 AM

We drove considerable miles to go to our "local" HF store... but I did get 7 packages plus one with the handle just to see what it was - it does come with three blades...

Yesterday we were in WM and I made a point to go see how much blades were in there $4.59 for ONE BLADE. That's ridiculous - at the most it's about .0000001¢ worth of steel. Talk about majorly ripping people off.

A few people keep asking about whether these blades will cut the mat. Now really, I don't GET that question. If the blade is dull enough to not mar the mat, it's too dull to use. And my mat is showing lots of wear and tear before I ever even heard of these HF blades (this is the BIG white mat from Joanns) Haven't tried cutting on a green or grey mat yet.

Lacelady 08-16-2010 05:44 AM

Well I don't mind if they stock up, there are still a lot of us out here that don't have any yet.

icon17 08-16-2010 06:47 AM

Sorry all this sound  but could someone say again abount the blades?

sewmuchmore 08-16-2010 07:32 AM

We do not have a HFT around here so someone on this board was generous enough to offer to buy some for me and mail it to me. That was so kind of her.

Annaquilts 08-16-2010 07:41 AM

Oh my husabnd was already eyeing the pizza cutter too. LOL Well I am still waiting for my blades. Some one bought all last 9 of them at the store close by. DH did buy some of the actual cutters because they come with three blades and are still lots cheaper then the brand name ones. So no worries some of us will go and buy them when they are back in. I am just worried they will be expensive then.

The guy at the store did tell DH, "All these old ladies are buying them all up!" LOL

DH didn't enlighten him.

Chasing Hawk 08-16-2010 07:46 AM

Well the way I see it, if there are no carpet cutting blades to be found. My brother will stay in business. He has a hardwood floor business in Michigan. :)

Being new here, I guess I missed what you all are talking about. Blades from a carpet company? Could someone explain, please? :)

Colbaltjars62 08-16-2010 10:17 AM

Score!!!!! I am on my way to go get the last 7 pkg of blades from HF in Vancouver,WA. in just a moment. I talked to a very nice man at a store by my house and he checked online for me to see what stores if any had them.He did mention that there are still some available in the Carolinas. Just a heads up if anyone lives there. See ya soon, I'm on a short road trip!!! :-D

Sure,
Harbor Freight tools carries round carpet blades that fit on the 45mm rotory cutters. They cost $1.49 for 2 blades. There is a feeding frenzy going on around the US for all the HF stores looking for them. LOL and there ya have it...

The blades for the rotary cutters that we use to cut fabric are kind of pricey. So, some insightful person found out that the blades that carpet layers use in their rotary cutters fit our 45mm handles and they are only 2 for $1.49 (? or something like that). Now everyone is making a run on Harbor Freight (that's the only place we found that sells them).

Mousie 08-16-2010 01:33 PM

I guess I missed something, not having regular pc usage for several months?
...let me see if I understand...there has been a run on rotary cutter blades, bc??? a big spaceship is fixing to suck up all we have available to us?
So, tons of boarders are becoming rotary blade hoarders?
Fill me in so i can get the fever, lol.
Is it like the Disney cartoons,...they are going to be locked in a vault until 20-something

aha! I see what the ruckus is about. I don't think we have Harbor Freight here. hmmm?
Oh, DSIL just told me where! Hot dog, I'm going there next week anyway!!! WOO HOO!
Dang y'all do come in handy

Diannia 08-16-2010 01:58 PM

Score! I just called my local HF and they have some in stock...oh and my DFIL goes there all the time for free flashlights (coupons in the paper) so I'll ask him to pick them up for me! YEA!!!

Janie Q 08-16-2010 02:17 PM

Went to the Omaha NE store today- they had lots of blades! And nice helpful clerks.

littlehud 08-16-2010 06:49 PM

I didn't know we had one here. Maybe I need to go check it out.

sewnsewer2 08-16-2010 07:00 PM

Mine should be in this week that I ordered. I told the guy who ordered them for me what I wanted them for and told him to order a BUNCH because we have a lot of quilters in the area. He said he would.

If they have extras, I am going to buy them for my fellow quilters who asked me to get them some from my guild.

AnnaK 08-16-2010 07:16 PM

After reading all the hoopla about the blades I went to check my stash. I have at least 12 Olfa blades in the package. I think I can wait till all this dies down. But, please leave some for me for next year!

Dee 08-16-2010 07:16 PM

What a buy. I use the 45 most of the time and we have a store about 4 miles. Gonna get some.

So true, so true.....

Ida 08-16-2010 07:56 PM

yahoo! Found a store 10 miles from here. Hope they have some! I was just going to buy some new blades.

mizmarymac 08-16-2010 08:35 PM

Thanks for the 411. They had about a dozen at the HFT on Warner Rd in Tempe, AZ. They were $1.19 w/2 blades. I had to ask another salesperson cause the first one told me the wrong location. I got 8 packs, I'll share with sk. They're really sharp.

mimiknoxtaylor 08-17-2010 04:41 AM

Yeah, haven't seen a Harbor Freight here in GA but we'll be traveling to MI & then on to WI next week & you better believe if I see one, WE're STOPPING!
This weekend we were in an around salvage/discount store in the mountains & found a bowl with the magnet in the tool section. $2. I snagged 2. Looking at the email yesterday & ad from Fons & Porter for the same one! On sale for $5 but reg. price of $8.99! Looks exactly like mine!]We do not have a HFT around here so someone on this board was generous enough to offer to buy some for me and mail it to me. That was so kind of her.[/quote]

Mona Marie 08-17-2010 05:09 AM

Went looking for them at our home repair places and NOT A ONE carries them!!! So will have to order them over the computer.

rustqlts 08-17-2010 05:57 AM

I copied the Harbor Freight website page showing them on backorder and took it to our local HF--and got a raincheck at the $1.49 price--just in case the next ones come in priced higher:)
