We also used the squirt gun. I think males are harder to train ( just like the human male).

Love this. Only the boy. shown in picture, gets on the sewing table when I am sewing. He likes to lay under the light. I have come close to sewing his fluffy tail to the fabric! Sometimes he tries to catch the thread on the back of the machine. They both sleep where ever they want to sleep. I tried to train them..They trained me to leave them alone. I move them and that works for a while.

This works for me too. Cats can be hard to train, especially if they're older. My SIL keeps a water spray bottle handy and gives hers a little squirt if they dare to jump on tables or counters.

My kitty Sandy doesn't really lay on my fabric while I'm working on it. I've only found her on the ironing board a couple of times but if the fabric is there sitting around then so is she.

I have 2 cats. Wadsworth - because he is such a long fellow and Gizmo. She's a medium/long fluffy female. We trained both with the squirt bottle. One day, Gizmo was on the table and DH picked up the water bottle expecting her to run. She didn't. Just staired at him. So he went to squirt her and got it straight in his own face. With that Gizmo jumped down, while he laughed his head off.

My cats are very dipomatic, they allow me to believe that I have them well trained. Yesterday I was ironing an expecially long piece of fabric, I started to move it so I could iron another section. Whoops, caught on something, nope cat laying on the fabric, cover blown. Sometimes they forget to keep their disguise in place.

My Iris seems to think I'm in the mood to play when I sit down at my sewing table. She's so cute I can't get angry. I did come across something that works but you have to do it periodically. I guess they forget? Or maybe they think you really aren't serious! Anyway, sneak up on them when they are where they aren't supposed to be & make a sudden loud noise. I use a pot lid & a metal spoon. Iris hates it but she's stays off the table temporarily.

i have 3, they dont get upon top of regular furniture, a chair yes. my bed, yes. trained with a spray bottle of water and tin foil on top of surfaces and a sharp "no" is a constant training system. and when i leave them, i can tell if they broke training-lol

Love this, and your signature line says it all too. I have only one kitty at present (Georgie girl), she rules the home, but she only climbs up on machine tables, ironing boards etc. if I am there. She can be a nusiance as she likes to get right up close - in your face - or sit on what I am doing, loves pins too, pulls them out of fabric or takes out of container and drops on floor. Sorry 'blzzrdqueen' doesn't solve your problem.Sometimes you have to cruell to be kind and strictly enforce rules but on the whole cats just love quilts and mommies that sew, good luck.

That is funny. Gizmo was probably laughing too.
