love the clamp

You can find these at Home Depot or Lowe's or a hardware store. They are very common pieces of equipment to find. Absolutely fabulous idea. You don't even have to hold the ruler while you're cutting. It's firmly in place.

I have those clamps and never thought of using them for holding the ruler. Thanks.

You can also use large binder clips that you get at the stationery store. Works great.

A friend of mine, who got this tip at a quilt retreat, uses small pieces of the non-slip rubber shelf liner. She places them on her fabric, then lines up her ruler and cuts. The ruler won't move until you pick it up.

I've had the same problem. I tried using the dots of sandpaper the dots all fell off. I tried holding it the way other quilters do. It still moves, it is so aggravating. But that sounds like a good idea. And I'm going to get me some of those clamps. thank you for sharing

Would these clamps be good to hold quilt in place when basting a quilt?
