okay, I am in a quandry. this block is just not looking exactly right to me. I just can't figure it out. can anyone else help get me to the right "look". I am thinking of changing the blueish outer fabric to the "bright" green strip at the bottom. I think that is what the problem is here. what do you guys think?

bjnicholson 03-15-2011 12:01 PM

Call me silly, I like it the way it is! But, I haven't made too many blocks. :? The colors are beautiful!

here is a semi completed block.

this is generally what the block would look like when finished. ignore the white center. I haven't put the fabric there yet. not sure what i am going to be putting there.

I like the way it looks myself, but if you were going to change it, I would go with the bright green.

Jim's Gem 03-15-2011 12:14 PM

It is gorgeous!!!!!

mltquilt 03-15-2011 12:15 PM

Agree with the bright green. The current background tends to blend with the purples.

It is very beautiful. My eyes want to switch the light purple with the dark purple. It appears to be an amazing pattern. All your work is beautiful.

clem55 03-15-2011 12:21 PM

I love it as isd!

featherweight 03-15-2011 12:27 PM

Actually I think it is beautiful the way it is.

callie 03-15-2011 12:37 PM

I wouldn't change a thing - I love it. What a wonderful quilt for a young lady of any age and beautiful!

Lv2sew2011 03-15-2011 12:40 PM

I think its pretty as is, and if you put borders a bright green border, I think would even bring it out more, but being a newby that just what I think...LOL

Lobster 03-15-2011 12:42 PM

It's gorgeous! I would definitely leave the greens as they are. Having a more toned green (i.e. it contains a bit more grey) in the background than in the foreground means that it adds depth to the quilt, giving something of a 3D effect (in a good way). The foreground green is brought forward, focusing attention on whatever you are going to have in the white square-on-point in the middle. The background green certainly doesn't blend in with the purples at all, they're perfectly well distinguished.

I am absolutely salivating over those batiks, especially the elegant curves of the background green one.

damaquilts 03-15-2011 12:43 PM

Once I saw it together I vote for leaving it. If I were going to change it , it would be to something with a little more blue in it. To me it looks like your fairy is sitting in the center of a flower.

Blue Bell 03-15-2011 12:44 PM

I think that it is perfect the way it is. It is a beautiful block.

Candace 03-15-2011 01:15 PM

To me the two greens are so close in color that they tend to blend. Not enough contrast. I'd either change the center green or change the outer green if they were my blocks.

Raggiemom 03-15-2011 01:16 PM

I think it's beautiful as is.

maine ladybug 03-15-2011 01:18 PM

I would try a golden color like her hair in place of the bright green stripe on there.

I agree. I really love it the way it is, when you put the blocks together it's beautiful. If I were to change anything, it would be to switch the two purples. Nice work! Can't wait to see the progress.

Marion Jean 03-15-2011 01:20 PM

I'm in agreement with the majority - it's very nice as it is.

same here

bigsister63 03-15-2011 01:42 PM

It may depend on what you put in the center and if you want the "fairies/angels" to be the focus. I think the bright green pulls you eye away from the faries/angels so I would go with lighter green Also I would switch lighter purple with darker one.

Fiber Artist 03-15-2011 02:06 PM

I like it!!

CarrieAnne 03-15-2011 02:23 PM

i love it!

bjchad 03-15-2011 02:30 PM

Personally I would change the very light triangle. ( center when put together) to something with a little more color in it. Otherwise I really like it. The purples go beautifully together and with the princess(?)

quiltingnonie 03-15-2011 02:49 PM

Love it 'as is'! IMHO, I would put a complimentary packed floral in the centers.

Dolphyngyrl 03-15-2011 03:02 PM

that is just beautiful don't change it

craftybear 03-15-2011 03:39 PM

beautiful, I love it the way it is

Dina 03-15-2011 03:50 PM

I like it the way it is. Beautiful.

klgreene 03-15-2011 04:45 PM

I don't think changing the bright green to the light purple would change the contrast much. I love it just the way it is.

sewingsuz 03-15-2011 05:52 PM

This is just awsome. What is the name of the block?

neece 03-15-2011 05:58 PM

You have done an amazing job. I would put a light purple square in the middle instead of the white. The center square is fighting for attention  :XD:

earthwalker 03-15-2011 06:01 PM

I think it is just right as it is.

sahm4605 03-15-2011 06:12 PM

the white actually is paper and not fabric. I have not found the right fabric for there yet. have three different ones that I am looking at right now. It just depends on what I end up doing with the greens.

OneMoreQuilt 03-15-2011 06:12 PM

Very pretty. What's the name of this block?

Mariposa 03-15-2011 06:24 PM

Your block is great as it is! The background helps to accentuate the lady in the center. If you did a bright green background, it would compete with the lady. JMHO~

happyscrappy 03-15-2011 06:25 PM

i do not understand what isn't looking right. i think it is beautiful. post a pic when you decide what the center will be. i like it alot.

Mary L Booth 03-16-2011 01:34 AM

Loveit. Leave it alone.

olebat 03-16-2011 01:47 AM

Quandaries such as this would have me in a Photoshop type program, or multiple photo copies/color prints, to assemble more blocks, to see what the resulting pattern would be.
Isn't this what makes designing so much fun? After deciding on a block, or block set, comes sashing or not.

Personally, the colors, as they are, are striking. It may be fun to make a stack & whack out of the focus fabric for the center. I too will be looking for a finale on this.

I am with you on that!! the dark purple next to angels seem to close her in. not sure about border if you change the purples.. I find myself being too matchy matchy at times so if the center square is the bright green I think the border should be too. I am leaning towards the lighter green for center frame. I think I would go with the angel/girl for the centblock and make her the focus- if you just put anothr color into the block you will probably loose the girl all together!! Jus my opinion though. I am new at this and havent done too much!!
Cant wait to see it done!! Your work is great and the colors are so vibrant and go together very well-you have a great eye for color!!!
