Need HELP with coordinating fabrics with BEAUTIFUL butterfly print

3 Attachment(s)
I bought the red butterfly fabric over 2 years ago and finally figured out what I am going to do with it. I need some help voting on the color combination to use. Mind you these are not the exact colors as it was done in EQ7.
As Debra K noted the yellow is bright in the pics below - the yellow in the butterfly fabric is VERY bright too!

Vote for
1 - red with yellow cross
2 yellow with red cross
3 yellow with blue cross
4 yellow with orange cross

The accent fabrics are going to be batiks - thanks for looking!:D

DebraK 01-24-2014 05:30 PM

i think the yellows are too bright in the diagrams. maybe a lighter fabric in the designs would give you more options. Only because you asked ;-) do what makes you happy.

Suze9395 01-24-2014 06:07 PM

Of the four, I prefer #1.
I think I agree the yellow is a little light/bright. What about maybe a pretty orange?

MamaBear61 01-24-2014 06:12 PM

That is a tough one. I will start by saying I LOVE your focus fabric. I am drawn to #1 and then #4, they seem "warmer" to me but maybe "warm" is not right with such a vibrant fabric. Whatever you decide it is going to be beautiful.

Evelynquilts 01-24-2014 06:15 PM

I vote for number # 1

bearisgray 01-24-2014 06:48 PM

Love the butterfly fabric. I don' t much care for any of the combos you have - the ydllow overpowers the great focus fabric.

crocee 01-24-2014 06:55 PM

Theres no way I could cut that beautiful fabric so I can't be of help.

Gayle8675309 01-24-2014 07:31 PM

I like #1, I think it is very striking. Beautiful fabric by the way.

ILoveToQuilt 01-24-2014 07:38 PM

#1 is my choice. Beautiful butterfly fabric. Can't wait to see the finished quilt.

Beautiful focus fabric! IMHO, #3 is the only one that "pops" the color in your focus fabric.

Boston1954 01-24-2014 08:05 PM

I would have to go with the blue. It breaks it up a bit.

Dina 01-24-2014 08:07 PM

I like number 1. Great fabric!

Dina

lynnie 01-24-2014 08:10 PM

I vote for the red and yellow cross. love it the best

GrammaNan 01-24-2014 08:12 PM

I like #4.

Jeanne S 01-24-2014 08:14 PM

Number 1 as I agree there is too much of the yellow in the others.

Quilter 65 01-24-2014 08:43 PM

Love, love, love that fabric.

carol40965 01-24-2014 08:48 PM

I like # 1. I think it draws the eye into the quilt. Would you mind sharing where you got the pattern? I love chickens and would like to make this using that fabric.

GrannieAnnie 01-24-2014 08:51 PM

yellow crosses on red for me

Novice.for.now 01-24-2014 09:16 PM

I also vote for number one. Of the four options it is best at allowing the lovely focus fabric to be the focal point.

mary123 01-25-2014 12:44 AM

I have not made a one block wonder, but it looks like it would make a beautiful one!
Love that butterfly fabric---it is beautiful!

mariatherese 01-25-2014 12:49 AM

Of course I have to say #3 because it looks like there are parts of the Swedish flag (inverted) in there. But I really like the warmer choices. I'd say #2 or #4 so that the butterfly fabric pops.

QM 01-25-2014 01:17 AM

I think any of them would work with your marvelous focus fabric (I wish I'd seen that one), but #3 strikes me as the best because it brings in a good contrast.

wannaquilt1 01-25-2014 01:22 AM

I love #3. It brings out the yellow in the focal fabric but isnt overpowering.

Teacup 01-25-2014 01:45 AM

I like #3, but what about reversing the blue and yellow placement, so it would be like #1 with blue instead of red? I think more of the cool blue might allow the butterflies to "pop"

carolaug 01-25-2014 03:44 AM

I like #1 and #3 - I also agree with the Teacup

I agree with Teacup. This was the first thing I thought when I saw the different layouts. I like the bright yellow a lot, but I think it might overpower the quilt by using so much of it. Flip the blue and yellow and see what happens.

LOVE BQ but I am wondering if you will try this. I would like to see black or the dark blue used in the background because your print is so BOLD and BRIGHT. Then use all the colors as the accents. Here is my EQ drawing and the pieced top. GOOD LUCK !! :)

I am also drawn to #1 and #4. I like #1 for the reduced amount of yellow and the orange in #4 appears to tone down the yellow.

Michelekolt 01-25-2014 04:27 AM

I like the first design, but I would also use this beautiful fabric for backing a quilt. It is so beautiful.

Stitchit123 01-25-2014 04:30 AM

I lose sight of your beautiful butterflies in all 4 designs--they all take my eyes away from the focus fabric. Maybe black will make the butterflies pop-in #1 use black instead of the red/orange but keep the yellow as is.

I like this option much better.

Your focus fabric is beautiful. I vote for #1. It seems to frame the butterflies.

Of the 4 I like #1, the yellows in the others is too bright for me but you did say they weren't exact representations. I love the focus fabric and my thought would be to use more of the blues...but go with your preferences.

MaureenT 01-25-2014 04:53 AM

Love the butterfly fabric, could you use a blue cross with the red?

Amythyst02 01-25-2014 04:53 AM

I actually like 3 best too : )

I agree I love love love the butterfly focus fabric but I feel like it keeps getting overwhelmed by your other fabrics. It could be the brightness of them or the size of the strips, or the size of the focus block I'm not sure what it is but to me you loose the beauty of your butterflys with all of these.

petpainter 01-25-2014 05:49 AM

I like #2 first, then #1. I think the focal fabric will show up more in life than in the pics. You knew you were going to get 100 different opinions lol! It will be so fun and beautiful whatever you do. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Ditto.............

I love the butterfly fabric. That said I vote for 1 or 4.

cajunowl 01-25-2014 06:07 AM

I vote for #1
