I recently made this top for DD best friend. They are expecting their first child this summer. DD picked out the fabrics from my stash. I like the way it turned out, but cannot decide on a border. What do you think, orange or brown. Don't mind the quilt inspector-she testing the process, sleeping on the job.
Thanks for your input.

I like the orange. Your inspector is doing a good job.

I think the orange makes the inside pop!
Cute fur baby/inspector.

personally I say orange... keep it bright for a kid...then bind in the brown.. the perfect frames!

dakotamaid 02-08-2011 09:12 AM

I like the idea of the orange border and the brown binding. I,ll just add a bit, how about a tiny border of the blue before the orange?

me too it makes it all come together

Gwenny 02-08-2011 09:23 AM

Orange all the way. Love the brightness of it.

dungeonquilter 02-08-2011 09:24 AM

I think it would great if you put the orange where the brown is and the brown where the orange is, with mitered corners.

belmer 02-08-2011 09:25 AM

How about a brown border to set it off and then an orange to widen it a little and then a brown binding..... Or a brown border and the smaller print larger border and an orange binding.

Scissor Queen 02-08-2011 09:43 AM

Since you have brown and orange on the edges your borders are going to sort of blend into the quilt. I would go with a fairly narrow border of the blue and then a wider border of the print and then bind in the orange.

EagarBeez 02-08-2011 09:53 AM

another vote for orange

sewwhat85 02-08-2011 09:58 AM

small brown with larger orange would be nice

quilt1950 02-08-2011 10:06 AM

I like both colors, but since it is for a child, I would use orange.

CloverPatch 02-08-2011 10:08 AM

Blue!

QuiltnCowgirl 02-08-2011 10:32 AM

Since there is already orange on the left side & brown on the bottom, how about adding orange to the top & brown to the right side, then bind all around in the blue.

I like this idea and the idea of multiple borders--a thin one of the print and then either the brown or orange and use the other for the binding.

this sounds like a great idea.

KarenK 02-08-2011 06:05 PM

In your 2nd photo, I really like the way the orange border blends with the orange and the brown border blends with the brown. I would try adding brown to the top and orange on the right side. The corners could be mitered or a blue square could be placed on each corner to continue the diagonal flow across the quilt. Then blue? for binding.

For me, the best way to decide on borders, is to lay out as many combinations as possible and take photos. There is usually one that jumps out and grabs you. :D

There are many possibilities posted here. Have fun with it!

roseOfsharon 02-08-2011 06:08 PM

I go for the brown for the border. .. maybe you could use the brown as a smaller border and then end with the orange as the outer border??

Stitchnripper 02-08-2011 06:10 PM

Nice quilt. Love the inspector.

lclang 02-08-2011 07:03 PM

Orange for a baby quilt.

nativetexan 02-08-2011 07:22 PM

you could do orange and bind it in brown. best of both worlds.

joeyoz 02-08-2011 07:44 PM

I know blue wasn't an option, but have you considered blue?

sueisallaboutquilts 02-08-2011 09:12 PM

Orange

Debbie downunder 02-09-2011 02:10 AM

Why not both? Thin brown to frame and larger orange to finish? Just a thought. Think the quilt is very happy - great job :)

plainpat 02-09-2011 03:17 AM

I like this, if you have the fabric. Otherwise a narrow blue, then orange will look good too.

I agree with you ... slim blue border, orange border then bind in brown. Lovely quilt!!! Whatever you do :)

Oh yeah - I vote orange too!

Jeanniebelle 02-09-2011 03:59 AM

I would go with the orange border also. I think your quilt inspector is just giving her mark of approval. Jeanniebelle

campy 02-09-2011 04:04 AM

I like all the ideas I like color and I think if you want to put a small boarder of blue, a wider one of orange and binding and back brown.

Becky Crafts 02-09-2011 04:15 AM

I tend to agree with Scissor Queen. A small frame of the blue, a border of the print and bind in orange. That would look fantastic and it already looks fabulous!! Very pretty!

tdgiffin 02-09-2011 04:18 AM

Orange with brown binding as someone else said

Your fir baby approves!! grin. I don't know what it is about a quilt, but my fir baby has to be on everything I do. The baby will be snug and warm under that sweet quilt.
Your DD did a good job of picking the fabrics.

emerald46 02-09-2011 05:16 AM

Ahh, seeing your inspector makes me miss mine. Had 2 huge Persian brothers for 14 years that sent a wee bit of themselves in every quilt I did. Lost them both within 5 weeks two years ago. Quilts just aren't the same without a little cat hair hidden somewhere...lol
