At first I thought the Dark Blue, but the bright blue, sure brightens it up. So my choice is #2.

Hmmmm ... another vote for going w/the brighter look. Thank you for that! :D

I'm quite a bit older than you. My grandmother died in the 70s, I always wonder what she would think about my quilting. I am the only one in the family that is a quilter. I know she would be amazed but I am sure she would be proud as I know you grandmother is as well.

craftybear 06-08-2010 04:25 PM

awesome, thanks for sharing

craftybear 06-08-2010 04:26 PM

I like the blue # 2, but you decide,

Aw, thank you so much for that *HUGS*. I am was her first granddaugther and we spent a LOT of time together when I was younger and like you, I'm the ONLY quilter in the family!

Joeysnana 06-08-2010 04:28 PM

Dark blue gets my vote!

Prism99 06-08-2010 04:29 PM

I like the dark blue color the best, but I do think the print is so busy it competes for attention with the plate. I would find another fabric in that color but with a subdued pattern so it reads more like a solid.

All of them look nice. I believe I like the last one the best. What is important is which one you like the best.

Lockeb 06-08-2010 04:49 PM

1st one - dark blue... :-)

That's what I was doing at the fabric store today but had no luck so will head to the bigger stores in town to see what I can find. I agree, it's too busy but the colour is right.

Stay tuned to see what I come up with ... it may be a week though

Thank you all so very much!

I love #2, it gives the lovely old blocks a modern twist.

pab58 06-08-2010 04:55 PM

#1, 2, and 3 in that order!! ;) Nice job on the plate!!

roseOfsharon 06-08-2010 04:56 PM

If you want the dresdan plates to be the focus, I think the dark blue is best.
If you want an allover "bright" quilt, the light blue would be best.
The green is my least favorite. I don't think it does the dresdan plates justice.
They are beautiful by the way :D

mrsdralshhadeh 06-08-2010 05:15 PM

I agree,, the blue,,! makes it "pop"!!! I knwo ti is hard w/o her,, but smile with each stitch and remember her,,,

dkabasketlady 06-08-2010 05:23 PM

I think you need to go with the dark blue(first one). Your DGM will be sew proud of you for carrying on what she was teaching you! Looking forward to seeing pics of your finished quilt.

marsye 06-08-2010 05:25 PM

I think the first one looks great. I can see that Granny is still with you because you are doing a great job!

BKrenning 06-08-2010 05:38 PM

I think a less busy navy for the background and using a yellow circle in the center of the plates will really pop it all out.

Aw, thank you so much I have been and I really hope she's proud, when I'm finally done. I tell you one thing though, we always hand stitched everything and my hands will just not do it anymore, they get too stiff and sore so I'm machine quilting it all! Hope she'll forgive me that?

Aw, thank you so much. It's been 10 years now so I'm finally done enough w/the greiving to quilt again and she's with me in every stitch. I feel like I'm a grown up now, doing it all on my own like this, imagine growing up at 48 ... well not all the way, still a kid at heart

thismomquilts 06-08-2010 06:38 PM

love the first one, then the second, not so much the third

CarrieAnne 06-08-2010 07:11 PM

I love the first one too!

CoriAmD 06-08-2010 07:13 PM

I really like the green.... but they are all pretty!

rismstress 06-08-2010 07:19 PM

Your background color is a matter of personal preference. It depends on what color you want to highlight in the plate. The dark blue makes the red and white stand out. The light blue makes only the red stand out. The green pops the gold colors. If you do a sashing, I would select the background first and then cue the sashing to the color highlighted.

littlehud 06-08-2010 07:21 PM

I love the dark blue. It is such a nice contrast to the plate. Keep us posted as to what you decide.

WHA? WHA? WHA? HUH? WHAAAT?! *vrooom*! over my head with that! ... okay I got the background info but the sashing, I don't understand. Whatever colour the background makes stand out on the plate, make that the same as the sashing?
