I vote for the first one, too. It just speaks to me and feels right. Nice job.
I like them all. I recommend that you choose a background that your Grandmother would love.
I like #1 too. Sorry about your grandma, sure makes a hole in our lives.
I think I would go with the bright blue. Sash with red and maybe put a gold star between sashing or a gold square. See my avatar for what I mean by the star. This is beautiful.
i like the 2nd one blue one best but the frist one is ok
sally myers |
definitely the 1st dark blue..awesome contrast
My preference is the first one, the dark floral. I like how the brights and lighter fabrics stand out on it. Beautiful block. :D
Definatly the dark blue. It just brings out the colours of the other strips.
I like them in the following order:
1. Dark blue 2. Green 3. Light blue Beautiful! :D |
The first. I too lost my GM in 2000. She did not quilt or any craft exc. a brief knitting foray. She made a shawl that she gave to me as I was (and still am) the only sewer, crafter in family. She knew I would love it. I DO.
When missing her, I wrap it around me and know how much I was loved. Could you do the same and feel her energy and guidance? |
I like the dark blue
My choice is the dark blue also.
I'm sorry to hear about your Grandmother. Grandmothers are responsible for much more than they realize!
I like the one with the dark blue! It showcases your plate fabrics much better! What will your plate 'center' be? |
I agree

You are getting so many different responses, guess I must ask-----What would Grandma say if you asked her the same question? Did she have a favorite color? Since it's the first since she's been gone, might as well complete it as a tribute to her. I'm sure she's watching and will smile when you finally decide.
I like the light Blue i think your plates show up better
I really like the first one..it looks elegant
I like the dark blue background. I know about losing Grandma, I lost mine in '06. Being the only quilter in the family, I got all her stuff, including unfinished stuff, and I'm trying to get better at embroidery so I can finish her dresdin slates, she has embroidered beautifully in the centers. Her work is so fine, I don't think I'll ever get there. But, they are a treasure.
I vote for the dark blue also.. I think the plates will look beautiful on it. The plates are what you want to see, not the fabric they're on. Just an opinion, it was free for the asking.. so do with it whatever you please.
I like the first and second one and you could alternate them and then sash with a white on white print. That would make everything pop. Very nice work. Good luck choosing.
I like the first one best, the dark blue. Beautiful job!
I vote for picture # 1.
I love the first one--lots of contrast! You're doing a fantabulous job!
I LIKE THE FIRST DARK BLUE ONE---THE PLATE REALLY SHINS ON IT.
I really like the first one. The second one competes with the block and the third one doesn't have any life to it (drab). I think what ever you choose will be the right one. Happy quilting.
the dark blue with the flowers has a traditional feel but I really like the black back it makes the colors pop however I try to think of where the quilt will be going so as not to have to redo the whole room which will look better to you, by the way I feel Quilting is a practical form of art and my teachers of years ago always said thair is no wrong choices with art simply is it pleasing to you! good luck!
I like the first one best. Makes the colors stand out really nice.

You have such a lovely collection of 30's fabrics; I think you should stay with that theme and the first one - the dark blue calico looks just perfect.

I have a question that I've been wondering about for quite a while. I'm just starting to quilt and am still on basic square patch things. But, I have a pillow my mother made using this pattern and would like to make a quilt sometime using it. I was never sure how to assemble it. Are the "plates" sewn onto squares or a full size backing? It didn't look pieced (other than the "plate"). Well, I saw this method on Missour Star Quilt Company's tutorials and it's SO much easier than doing them by hand! The plates are attached to 14" squares although, depending upon the background I may make mine 16" squares and then sash the squares then border and backing. A friend of mine did hers in the QAYG style (quilt as you go) where you complete each block as a sandwich (top, batting, backing) then quilt it, then attach the sections together w/a 1.5" sash. |

Keep up the good work! I found doing my first and only, dresden Plate to be somewhat challenging. I did mine with rounded edges, but I really like what you did with the having it pointed.
