Welcome new member! I'm not sure I'll be much help on the placemat, but what I see is mighty pretty. I'm sure someone else will come along with some info.

What is it that you need?

Welcome from NC. The placemat looks pretty good to me. I don't think I would do anything differently.

sahm4605 12-22-2010 05:40 AM

the obly thing that I can see wrong could be that it is maybe slightly off center? but that could just me my eyes. I have horrible depth perception. or is it sitting on a chair? I can't tell. need to really get to the eye doctor.

Hi from Ohio!

mrsbonnie 12-22-2010 03:11 PM

:-) Hi There;
This is a placemat i purchased & would love to make them, I just can't figure out how to go about this,I have tried but just does not look the same.I can't figure out the steps of this placemat. There is no start or finish to it that i can see. If someone knows how, i sure would appreciate this, :|

amandasgramma 12-22-2010 06:01 PM

Ok mrsbonnie....here goes:
lay your pieces out like you want -- but without the center piece (the circle). Sew two of the "blades" together, then two more and two more -- and keep sewing till you have them in a circle. Now lay it down on a backing piece (yours has a blue background) Sew those pieces to the background around the outer edges (with the 1/4" tucked under). Now sew the center circle on. You can hand stitch all those pieces on and hide the stitches or do like they did. Finally, sew the backing to another backing (maybe with batting - up to you) with the RIGHT sides together -- be sure to leave a 4" or so opening on one side). Flip the right sides out, close the opening. Now...what I'd do is sew with the machine or by hand an "echo" stitch around the Dresden plate -- so you're sewing all the layers together.....basically, quilting it. Hope this helps!!!!

Hi Bonnie --- I'm waving at you from Georgia, but my son lives in Ottawa --- he keeps me up to date on how cold it has been there this winter. Welcome to the quiltingboard - you will make a lot of new friends here.

Welcome form Arkansas, the place where you never know what kind of weather you'll get up to in the morning or go to bed to at night. Your Dresden Plate Place Mat is very pretty. My plate will fit on it. I don't see anything wrong with it myself.

matraina 12-23-2010 06:31 AM

I think your placemat is beautiful. Some day maybe I'll be able to do that.

Abby'smom 12-23-2010 06:34 AM

welcome from se TX

Welcome from Placerville California and good luck on making your dresden plate placemat like the one in your picture. Ammandasgramma pretty much covered what you need to know. I hope this isn't a Christmas present for this year though because it does take time to get these cut, sewn, and finished up. Have a very Merry Christmas.
Lynne

Welcome from the Lone Star State. It was 83 here Yesterday. The placemat looks good to me, too.

kellen46 12-23-2010 07:20 AM

I believe if you go to the Nancy's Notions web site you will find a link to her videos, from the show. One of these is dedicated to dresden plate projects including a place-mat. It is not too complex if you think of each wedge as a slice of pie. sew the slices together and you get a plate. the center circle on your sample seems to be just appliquéd down with a satin stitch. There are plenty of books out there about just the dresden plate pattern so check with you local library. Research on line until you find a book title that seem to have what you want and if your local library does not have it they can get it from inter library loan. I also believe if you google the dresden plate pattern you will find loads of pattern resources.

This is JUST ABOUT what I would do. Only after sewing the blades together, I would do a straight stitch around the opening, a little less than a 1/4" away, to keep it from stretching. Then stitch the backing on right sides together, clip the curved edges and turn right sides out. Press well. The applique the circle on with a satin stitch like they show, and you won't have any opening to hand stitch closed.
