Opinions Needed - Sashing or No Sashing

2 Attachment(s)
This is a scrappy Stepping Stones. The pattern calls for black sashing between each block and I can't decide whether I want to sash it at all. The borders will be a narrow black one, a 4" multi-color, and then outside binding of black. Thanks so much for your input!

Gorgeous blocks! I like it with the sashing. It makes the blocks pop.

mighty 06-16-2012 12:32 PM

Beautiful blocks, I agree I like it with the sashing.

raynhamquilter 06-16-2012 12:39 PM

Yes, the sashing looks great!

Phannie1 06-16-2012 12:40 PM

I like it with out the sashing. I like the colors blending.

dunster 06-16-2012 12:42 PM

I like it a little better with the sashing, but both ways look super.

Scissor Queen 06-16-2012 12:57 PM

I think it's a lot more interesting without the sashing.

ckcowl 06-16-2012 12:58 PM

i like it with the sashing- but if you like it without go for it- without it kind of 'blends' together- with sashing there is distinct separation- your choice.

kathdavis 06-16-2012 01:05 PM

I like the sashing. That quilt is going to be stunning.

alisonquilts 06-16-2012 01:09 PM

Beautiful both ways...but I prefer without sashing.

(Looks like you are going to get about 50-50 in the opinions - not much help, are we?!

With the sashing it looks more "artsy", without it it has a slightly more traditional blended effect, almost like a basket weave. I like both looks.

QuiltnNan 06-16-2012 01:10 PM

i like it both ways :)

cathylynn 06-16-2012 01:11 PM

with sashing. each block stands out a bit more.

irishrose 06-16-2012 01:11 PM

Stunning blocks. Because it's for a grandson, I'd say sashing. If it were for me, I'd want no sashing.

rrhaigh 06-16-2012 01:37 PM

I like it with a thin sashing - pops the quilt blocks. But, either way the blocks are beautiful.

jcrow 06-16-2012 02:09 PM

Beautiful work you did. I love the fabric. I love the blocks with the sashing definitely!!

kapatt 06-16-2012 02:15 PM

I like both ways.

CarolinePaj 06-16-2012 02:17 PM

Sashing for me too!

Hello

I too like the sashing!

TanyaL 06-16-2012 02:43 PM

Your colors are wonderful. The pattern while it is elongated triangles is very linear. You might like to try putting two blocks together to get a square shape and then set them wonky against a wide black sash for a very distinctive, unexpected look. Of course it would be larger and a totally different type pattern, but just a suggestion.

smanry 06-16-2012 02:48 PM

I think I'd like it with sashing, myself, but I think I'd make a slightly wider sashing than showing in your photo. These blocks are beautiful, and like fine art, deserve a fine frame.

redquilter 06-16-2012 02:53 PM

It's beautiful. I like it with the sashing.

MzMcKee 06-16-2012 02:54 PM

I vote for the sashing... The colors just stand out more. :)

susie-susie-susie 06-16-2012 03:08 PM

I vote for sashing. Gives your eye somewhere to rest. The quilt is beautiful, by the way.

Definately needs sashing. cool blocks!

EvelynJ 06-16-2012 05:16 PM

Sashing....I've looked at this three times and I'm just going to say black sashing. I love your blocks!

Handcraftsbyjen 06-16-2012 05:20 PM

I like it with the sashing.

maryb119 06-16-2012 05:23 PM

I vote for the sashing.

yes, I like that super narrow sashing... it's just enough of a frame for each block. What a great top! I can't wait to see it all done!

teddysmom 06-17-2012 02:40 AM

I like it better without the sashing.

nycquilter 06-17-2012 02:55 AM

without though with would be nice. I like the movement it has without the sashing.

Julie in NM 06-17-2012 03:57 AM

I vote for skninny sashing! just enough definition between blocks.

KR 06-17-2012 03:59 AM

Dark narrow sashings definitely.

Cris 06-17-2012 04:20 AM

I like it without, the black binding will be enough to make the blocks pop. It is beautiful!

Trene 06-17-2012 04:39 PM

I vote narrow sashing. It is a gorgeous top!

omaluvs2quilt 06-17-2012 08:48 PM

Either way its stunning, but I prefer no sashing...much more artsy, I love the subtle blending & the directional prints.

sewbeadit 06-17-2012 11:19 PM

I absolutely love it without the sashing!

ILoveToQuilt 06-18-2012 03:04 AM

Hmmm, this is a tough call because your quilt is beautiful either way. I guess if it were my quilt I'd go with NO sashing.

Amythyst02 06-18-2012 03:06 AM

I like it with the sashing..

WMUTeach 06-18-2012 03:12 AM

All I can say is ditto to the black sashing because it shows off your interesting work.
