Does anyone know why PBS has stop showing quilting or sewing shows in the new york area???? :-( :-( :-( :!: :!: :?
do you get the Create channel at all? they have some at times.
Have stopped in southeastern wisconsin also. Used to look forward to them at Saturday Noon!
So does BYU (Brigham Young University). Early in the mornings for sure during the week. Not sure when exactly. I happened upon the shows by accident.
Each PBS station pays for and schedules their own programming. They're not like CBS or NBC where every station shows the same programming. Contact your local station and request the programming you want to see and support the programming you want to see with a donation.

Wondered the same thing! They stopped them on Athens, Cambridge, Ohio too! The only ones on are at 12:00pm Sue Hausmann and at 12:30pm Sewing with Nancy on channel 44-2! They took off Fons and Porter both at 7 am on 20-2 and 8:30 am on 44-3 and took off Sue Hausmann at 7:30 am on 20-2. Also they are no longer on Saturdays!

Ours shows 2 quilting shows 8am and 830am Sat morning, don't get to see them often, I usually forget, not into tv that early.
Moved to GA in late 2002, enjoyed 2 hours of quilt shows every weekday - and then suddenly they were gone. We have so many excellent and thriving quilt stores in North Georgia. What are those execs at PBS thinking?
they haven't stopped WLIW has fons and porter, sewing with nancy, and martha sewing.
We have 3 pbs stations and F&P is on at least once a day.
They have nearly stopped in our area, too. I am very very disappointed...3 out of 4 weeks we get their fund raising programs on Saturday morning instead. We get Fons & Porter on the BYU channel on our cable system now, and they have them on nearly every day.
And then, to add to the disappointment, F&P gives the shows to the PBS stations for FREE!!! Now why wouldn't they take it? No sense!! |

Get all of your quilt store owners to make donations to the station to pay for the quilt shows and they'll show them. |
There is not one quilt show on ANY channel in my area on satellite or local stations. Bah, humbug!
None here in Maine either.....very disappointing. Maybe with all the reality shows on television, they could develop a Quilting Channel. I would watch!
Thank goodness -- we still have sewing/quilting shows Sat AM from 8-12:30. When they do a fund raiser for the station, I always make sure I endorse the quilting programs. A while ago they put a really bad craft program on during the fund raiser and a lot of us complained. They listened because they want our money.
When you call to make your donation, tell them the shows you want to see. Also, if you get PBS on cable, you need to make a pledge. even though you pay a cable fee, they don't get any of it.
We get PBS stations from three states (5 channels) here in NH so we see Fons & Porter, Sewing with Nancy, Martha's Sewing Room, Quilting Arts, It's Sew Easy, and America Sews. Not bad for living out in the woods in the middle of nowhere.
I have often been told by the stars of the quilting shows to write, write, write the local PBS stations.
my pbs channel carries 3 that i know of- there may be more but i get fon's & porter on mondays, sew that on wednesday (used to be sewing with nancy) and america sews with Sue huesman (sp) on saturdays.
contact your pbs and ask- request them- they show what their audiences want usually |
We still have it here in Stevens Point, WI, Saturday mornings at 9:00
We live in NW Illinois and all we get is out of Iowa. They have showings even in the night so maybe need to set your DVR's
when!
There is either a sewing or quilting show on Create (Verizon channel 471, not sure what Cablevision equivalent is) at noon M-F, and it is rerun at 6 PM. The BYU channel (channel 290 Verizon) has Fons & Porter every day at 11 AM.
RFD TV has Quilt in a Day on Wednesday.
Pittsburgh, Pa. discontinued them at least 5 or 6 yrs. ago.
I kept calling and emailing but they said it wasn't of any value to the station. They actually got rude to one of my friends. Anyhow, I discontinued my support for them. Most of the weekly shows during the day are childrens, weekends are cooking, woodworking, and 1 garden show...if they still have it. It's been a while since I have watched the channel because there isn't anything of interest any longer. |
That is controlled by your local PBS station, whether or not you can have access to another PBS channel that is not within your viewing area.
I tried to make donations to the Alabama PBS so I could see Pullen and quilting, but I wasn't allowed access to it because Pittsburgh PBS doesn't allow access of others in our area. Stinks!! |

You need to contact your local PBS station. The stations out here in CA are doing their fund raising that occurs about every 3 months. HOPE this helps !!! :) |
It is our Gov't!!!!!!!!!
They are cutting their funding!!!!! That is why they need our donations....... Call and see what you can do to help get them back....... It is so so so sad    |
I get them on Create and the RFD channels.
Watching Quilt in a Day right now. |

we dont have any here either.
I noticed that, too. I used to love my afternoon break at 3pm on Monday-Wednesday. Oh well.
Time to bombard PBS with emails asking for quilting programs......get rid of some of the other stuff they are showing......

I haven't seen a show for a looong time either. They just don't think there is enough interest anymore.
We only get Eleanor Burns on RFD-TV here (S.E. GA/FL)
Years ago, we got Alex Anderson's shows, but her contract ran out, that's when she went to doing the online thing with Ricky TIms... So, nothing here either!~You have to remember that regardless of it's name, PBS is not so PUBLIC anymore... |
If ya'lll get RFD tv channel, Eleanor Burns is on there. It's on Dish network.
we are down to Fons & Porter once a week but have more cooking shows than anyone can ever watch. I don't know why since we have a cooking channel. I guess in the days of both people working and fast food they think people are actually cooking
they teased us with one full Sat of different quilt shows then it was gone |
So sorry you are deprived. Hope you are able to find things on line to compensate. Aren't you glad this board is here for you?

We used to have Fons and Porter on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:00 AM. Now it is some far out quilting/non-quilting show that I don't watch. Can't waste my time on stuff like that! Too bad, too! Today it was making Christmas ornaments that looked like houses or something! Too busy for that! Edie
