A friend asked what she could do with some scraps that she had, I had this cool idea and did a mini trial of the block. It turned out so good that I thought that it would be fun to do as a mystery. The mini's seem to be very popular right now with all the Doll Swaps going on. I need to do a little more figuring on what you need for the whole quilt.

Scraps, you need scraps, you need:

5 darks, various widths, no wider than 3 1/2"
3 mediums all the same color, no wider than 1"
12 lights, no wider than 1"
various scraps for borders
binding
backing
batting

if you don't have that many then they can be doubled up in some places, or if they are short, more pieces can be added in for a more scrappy look.

Actual amounts and cutting directions will be available later.

Date TBA

For those that are not into the mini thing, there will be full size cutting directions as well. the directions for everything else will be the same.

Great!, it won't take long to do, I was messing with it today around weeding the garden and the animals and everything else and I have a pile of little blocks sitting here. It is a great way to get rid of some of those scraps. It is also a good way to work those mini skills.

ScubaK 08-05-2009 09:42 PM

I'll try it!!!

<waving both arms>

I'm over here! I want to play, too!

(especially since I know where all those particular scraps happen to be!)
LOL

cutebuns 08-05-2009 10:01 PM

Awwesome, more players, this is happening faster than it was supposed to, I was supposed to be working on something else.

I will get on the final math and get it all straight. Take a few notes, take a bunch of pictures, and start on the instructions, I have a proof reader so hopfully there won't be any wrinkles along the way. I guess I should time it as well, so I have an idea on how long to give.

SulaBug 08-05-2009 10:25 PM

I am interested too!! :D Let us know when
the date to be done is final!! Then I will
know for sure. Thanks.
:D :D :D :D

k3n 08-06-2009 02:31 AM

Hmmm, am I too much of a control freak to play? Well, guess I'll just lurk a while before committing myself! BUT I must say I'm intrigued - and I do have scraps!

NorBanaquilts 08-06-2009 02:38 AM

I've never done a mystery quilt, but it sounds like fun. I'd like to give this one a try.

I have been trying to figure out if there is a quilting god or something that would come and remove all the scraps you didn't use, but ... no such luck <g>
If you don't finish on time, you will just have to finish it when you get to it.
No quilting police here, either <g> Those of us who have participated will stay tuned to this thread and help you along the way.
That is what friends are for ! <wave>

I prefer Onion Rings. Sure!! calories be damned!!!!

kathy 08-06-2009 06:53 AM

well heck, why not? I've never done a mystery quilt before!

Iluv2quilt 08-06-2009 07:09 AM

Count me in, I love a good mystery!

cutebuns 08-06-2009 07:22 AM

Is so great that so many want to join in, I will have more details soon in dates and timings.

The quilt is fairly easy to do so most beginners should be able to do it, the biggest challenge with the quilt is the size not the pattern.
'

I am so excited!

omak 08-06-2009 08:04 AM

I C U <g>
and I C that you have pulled another number. So, I toddled over to your bingo place and posted a surprise <g>

Don't forget, I am going to be in on the mini mystery :D

cutebuns 08-06-2009 08:25 AM

I won't forget you Omak, we had so much fun on the last mystery.

The instructions will be up on the board, so if you don't finish with everyone or want to wait until later, they will be there, and I will be around if you need more help with it.

That is so great!

Just working on it right now and the front is going to take about a meter (39 inches) in total (with some scraps left over  ).

I think this is a good one to both try out the mini's and the mysteries. I did the one mystery and got hooked enough to want to plan and do my own.

I am very excited to be doing this, it is my first for planning a mystery.

Count me in too, but I have a question, is there a time limit we have to get it done by? I have a few things backing up here a bit.

Bettia 08-07-2009 08:57 AM

Whhhhisssssssh...............OMG what was that??
FLASHING LIGHTS
Kwhite, did you just throw an empty spot into my already overloaded
plate? It landed. I'm in.
I need direction!!! What do I need?

cutebuns 08-07-2009 09:03 AM

What you need is a bunch of scraps, cutting directions will be posted shortly, but start gathering about 12 lights 5 darks and 3 of the same med. most are going to be one inch cuts, the darks are going to be up to 3 1/2 wide.

The mystery will be posted and at any time you can go back and finish it if you don't that day. The mystery is only for the day, after that it is no longer a mystery. But you can still do it. Any time, the instructions will be there for anyone that wants to do it. There are going to be some that are busy that day or whatever (some want to see what they are making before they make it.)
