The quilt police will probably jump on me for this but what's wrong with just writing on the back side of the quilt with a fabric marking pen who it's for and by whom? It' permanent.

I do that somethimes, too. The trouble is that if you mess it up, you're stuck with it. I've mispelled name and spacing was so off when I practice on labels, I try not to do it on a quilt.

How about applique the letters of his name in the border?

I put Pam's name on her quilt and it is never coming off. She said her little granddaughter loves the quilt, so Pam just points out her name and that settles the ownership.

The patterns for the letters are from quilters cache.

I sent some to a member of the QB for one of her quilts.
They go together pretty quickly. If you want them a little larger (like I did) just cut the outside piece wider.

Thats really pretty. We send our quilts off to hospitals so we dont know who gets them. After the quilt is finished
we attach a label to the back of the quilt. My sister and I use our embrodier machine and put something cute on it.
Then we write...".With love and comfort" and our org. name

I would put the child's name, with love from the current foster parents name, the dates, and your name as the quilter. Hopefully those will all be good memory names for this child.

I'd say put the child's full name on the quilt in
large, distinctive lettering. Maybe the date.

Bless you for doing such a thing for a troubled
child.

yeah NO! There is no way on this green earth that I would put my name on a quilt that is going wherever a foster child goes, exp if there is a possiblity that he could go back to his bio-family! Let me tell you these families are NEVER happy that a foster family has their child and although the foster family has no say in the childs future they don't see it that way and they hold grudges! I have taken care of foster kids for MANY years. A friend of my family has always had foster children with different medical needs, and there is NO WAY I would allow the bio-family to know ANYTHING about me!

Anyways to the OP, Good luck with your quilt!

sew the label down on which ever bottom side you are comfortable with and list all pertinent information and sew it down really tight all the way around so they have it forever.
