I make labels by typing what I want in Microsoft Word and print it out on Printed Treasurers (inkjet printable fabric). After I remove the backing, soak with water to get any excess ink off, and let dry, I hand sew it on the back of my quilt.

Wow! What an awesome way to do it. I also use my embroidery machine to make my labels but I love the way you finish them. Great Idea!

I use my embroidery machine. Then put a piece on top right sides together. I stitch around it using curved corners I've drawn with small plastic lid. When done I carefully slit the backing. Turn right side out and hand stitch to quilt with invisible ladder stitch.

I just made labels for my charity group quilts... I label most that go as gifts.. not always my own... hope you don't mind that I share

Always label, some by hand, some by machine, one or two pre-made. Trying to decide my "style". But i have decided I prefer to hand embroider labels. I add them after quilting (one was eaten on my machine) into the binding in the lower right hand corner. The binding olds most of the label and a little hand stitching finishes the other side/sides. My favorite seems to be a triangle shape tho I have to plan a little more to make it even!

I do labels for gifts, the ones I keep I just sign my name somewhere on the back and the date I finished them.

I, too, use sewnsewer2's labels. Quick and beautiful, she's the best.

My machine has an alphabet and I put my labels along the bottom right edge.

I make mine, but if someday I ever have an embroidery machine, they will be so much more beautiful!! Right now, I hand write with a pigma pen, then border it with fabric from the quilt front. This I stitch by machine to the quilt backing, or by hand after the quilting is done. Depends on if I remember to add it before or not. LOL
I prefer to do it before as that makes it harder to remove. And yes, I label All my quilts. This label is on the Plaid Patches quilt. |
Early on when I was first taking quilt classes, the importance of labeling was made clear so that your quilt can be documented. I've often looked at some of my quilts, which I didn't label (bad girl) and for the life of me cant' remember when I made them, so now I try to label every quilt, especially the ones I give as gifts or ones I sell.

I make my own on my embroidery machine. I use Bernina Artistic embroidery software quilting text and embroider them on fabric. I then hand sew these to the back of my quilts. I include the name of the quilt, my name, year it was made, town in which I live, and the person to whom I gave it. I also include the special event for which it was given.
