I used TAP (Transfer Artist Paper by Leslie Riley) to make this label. I used the inkjet printer to print on the TAP paper and ironed it on high thread count muslin (Legacy Studio premium muslin at JoAnn Fabrics). It is not as stiff as Printed Treasures fabric sheets.

I make mine by printing on fabric. For the DWR quilt for my DD wedding gift, I had my BFF embroider the words from my DD's wedding invitation for the label. My DD was so overwhelmed when she read it that she was in tears. Made MY day, and I got pictures of it.

I've been told putting the label on before quilting is better. That way if the quilt ever strays the label will be attached and will identify the quilt. Especially a good idea for quilts going to a nursing home.

I have done it by making a separate label or by writing directly on the quilt. My machine "writes" so I've done labels by including the name of the person receiving the quilt, the occasion (birthday, graduation, baptism, etc.), my name, date. This is appliqued to a lower corner of the backing. I've also used a permanent pen to write directly on the backing. Sometimes it's been as simple as "by Gail.......... " and the date. My dilemma has always been whether to apply the label before quilting or after. I have always appliqued it by hand after the quilt has been quilted and bound. And I've wondered if that is the better practice.

I print mine on the computer. I have only made a few with my embroidery machine. I prefer to print them on fabric, sew them on the back and the finish quilting. Sometimes Inwill put a picture on the label also.

I make mine. I might use an extra block or make a special block with light colored fabrics, so my Pigma marker shows up on it. I iron on a piece of freezer paper, on the wrong side, with lines drawn on it with a Sharpie marker. Put fabric on a light box or window and you can see the lines thru, so you can print on a straight line, if you want. Then just remove the freezer paper, iron over the edges and hand sew on the quilt.

I make mine and pjut them on all my quilts. It nice to know how long ago I made the quilt. Time can get away from you so fast.

KwiltyKahy, that's a great thought. I'll have to start doing that. And fireworkslover, I like the idea of using the light box for following lines.

I used my embroidery machine for this on a binding. I didn't need a lot of detail because it's just a simple "blankie" for my GD to drag around.

I label my quilts and sewnsewer2 makes my labels for me. She embroiders gorgeous labels, is wonderful to work with and her work adds to the beauty and enjoyment of each quilt. :-)
