I find that I can find just about any pattern I might want on the internet...FREE! Yes, magazines prompt me to want to do a certain pattern, but I usually manage to find it online and don't have to feel guilty about throwing out an expensive magazine or finding a place to store them, possibly never to look at them again.

I have kept subscriptions to two magazines, Quilter's Newsletter and Machine Quilting Unlimited. I have patterns so I don't really need magazines that are mostly patterns. I do look thru them on the newsstand and will pick up The Quilter or Quilter's World if they have patterns that really catch my eye and I have done several quilts from both of those magazines.

Quiltmaker is one of my favorites. Not only great patterns but quilting motifs too!

I agree, McCalls is the best for me. They have "fun to do" quilts and give great instructions. My suggestion is to go to a bookstore like Barnes and Noble and read through all the different ones and then decide.

I have stacks of older magazines given to me,that I havent looked thru yet, but still love the thrill of getting a new one ...Will be watching this thread to decide which one to order

I really like Quiltmaker.

I used to get a lot of them and found over time that I had lots of duplication. All my subscriptions have NOT been renewed but I am thinking of getting "Quiltmaker" online.

I am blessed to live relatively near a Barnes & Noble store. I can go there and look at all the quilting magazines [that aren't wrapped in plastic] while having a 'pretty' coffee at their Starbucks. Also my son lets me use his account for discounts on all I buy, including the coffee! I only buy what I like.

When I did subscribe a bunch of us quilters each had different subscriptions and shared with each other.

Since I like to scan what I like into my computer and flash drive, I pass the whole magazine along to quilting friends anyway. Scanning prevents paper build up and yet leaves me with what I want.

I get Fons and Porter. I also get American Patchwork and Quilting. But, I also buy a few at the grocery stores. I'm finding out that it seems like all the patterns have been done before and the only thing I'm getting out of the magazines are a few tips about new gadgets and the latest fabrics, which, by the way I can find online and on this forum, so I really don't need the magazines at all. I use to get so excited when I got a new magazine...not so much anymore. Quilter's World is about the best one out there, I believe. The other gals are right on.

I love Fons and Porter. Last year I let my other subscriptions run out and I miss them. A quilting friend and I would share and when we were done we would put a check mark next to our name. When both of us were finished with the magazine we saved them and took them to our favorite LQS and they have a big basket to collect them and share with any customers. We did save the magazines either of us wanted saved. Look at all the quilt magazines in the stores and see which ones are more to your liking.
