Yep! You have the correct idea.
The cool thing about this is...if you don't like it...go again. Use another color...or black...black makes any mistake look fantastic...trust me. |

Great job on your denim quilt. i love the storm at sea pattern. I've got the fabric-------just have not got started yet. |
You are right, dyeing fabric is easy and fun and does get you a palet of fabric that cannot be bought. I love the cram and jam way of dying too. I sometimes over dye but have never tried denim...I have a big tub of jeans ready for recyling so I will give this a try. It also makes me think that still wearable favorite just a little faded jeans might get a facelift with this method too. Oh and with a a matching teeshirt or zippy up hoodie...how fun.

Curious, how many jeans pockets have you removed? Those suckers are sewn to STAY![/quote] I use a razor blade to cut the stitching on the top corners of the pockets. The rest of the pocket just pulls off once you have the corners free. |
melodyr-your overdyed denim is fantastic. Love the colors. Thanks so much for the directions. This sounds like a fun thing to try.

Wow! What beautiful projects! I love recycling old jeans and have made vests, aprons and bags out of them.
Here are a couple of links that have other ideas: http://4h.wsu.edu/clothing/quick_pro...enim/denim.htm http://www.junkjeanspeople.com/JunkJeansPatterns.htm On the second one, these are very easy patterns and I've made several of the projects. I think my next project though may be the circle quilt. That's really cute! |

This is a great thread and everything everyone has made is wonderful. All of you have given me so many ideas  |
I made a pair of slippers for my husband using recycled denim.
