If you decide not to use the Thomas fabric you could always use red bandanas. I have made several quilts using red bandanas and recycled blue jeans. Both are little boy fabrics.

Just what I was thinking. Love Thomas, man my son has a whole container of those little engine that will someday be passed onto his.

It would be cool to do a huge Thomas center panel and then try to find some of the other engines and put in a border. Oh how much fun!

Go for the red.....My grandchild loved spiderman. I did a twin spread for him (it is so neat) and used red squares put together for the backing.
The quilting showed on the back. So he could use it with either side showing. That was 6 yrs ago and he now has the red side up.

Most fabric stores have yardage with the red or blue bandana print that compliments Thomas. The engineer of the train surely had a red bandana handkerchief!

By all means - go there! I made my grandson a red racecar quilt with all the racecar flag colors in it - he loved it -and the highschool musical came out with the red background, so made that too - he is a red lover, so whatever your grands love, do it! Within reason of course...:)
