My local stores have signs saying once it is cut that's it. But I don't mind because I have never had to bring back fabric. I always love what I pick out.

Hancocks will take back fabric if it has not been washed or cut. I've never done it because if I don't use it in my current project I'm sure I'll find another use for it. Into my stash it goes.

My Joann's will sell anything less than 1 yard at the end of the bolt as a remnant if you want to purchase that along with what you got.

my joanne's won't discount the last 1". if you don't take it, you can't have that last yard. they also will not take back fabrics once it has bee cut unless there is a serious defect or a bad cut. they even give you a problem on that if it was on sale.

If I get it home - and decide not to use it, I add to the "ever growing" stash.

What a bummer - At one local JoAnns here :? I look at the bolt and if it is small I try to estimate what I need and what will be left just to see If I should take the remaining yardage for the stash.

I have recently found a GREAT discrepancy in operating practices at different JoAnns. I do not know if it is the managers prerogative as to how to run things or the district manager - but they are NOT all the same. Even the availability of the sale fliers differs. There are two equally distant from my home - One readily offers the end of the bolt and stocks the sale fliers, while the other does neither. You can guess which one I go to!!

I don't know any stores who will accept returns. Walmart has a sign in their fabric dept to that effect. But I think they are talking about "changed my mind" or "it doesn't match" issues, Most stores probably would, if it were defective.

It's important to watch carefully for flaws and crooked cuts while they are cutting your fabric.

I went to Joanns yesterday (25 miles away, so I don't go often) and there was a young man cutting. He cut a quarter yard for me, and then he started on the next piece. I looked at that first piece and picked it up and measured it on his ruler. It was only 8". He cut me another piece, of course.

When I got home, I washed all the fabric and realized that all of it was crooked, so I still had less than 9 usable inches. It doesn't matter so much on the 3 and 4 yard pieces, but I like to get what I pay for.

If the store was closer, I would return it.

I've never wanted to return fabric but if something was wrong with it, I think I would.

Well, I was wondering because... I was shopping in JoAnn's and a customer returned a fabric and when asked why, she really didn't have an answer, just said she wanted to return it. Now, if it was damaged that would be one thing, but "just because", well that's quite different. And it somehow just didn't seem right. So I just wondered if all shops just sigh, and allow the returns, or if it was only the chain stores that have such generous return policies.

That's all. Nothing too scary, I hope!
