I made a pin cushion I call the zucchini (instead of a tomato). It is long, and green and I can stick my open safety pins in a row - easy to inset and remove the pins without having to open them or get stuck.

I store mine in a tin and store them open. I sprinkle out some into the lid and then shake them and they generally untangle enough to use without much trouble. By the end of a pinning session I figure I have halved the wear on my fingers if they are already open ready to use.

I like that idea too Anne Marie!

I store mine in a large metal tin but leave them open. Years ago I took a class from a master quilter, she used safety pins to baste & said never close them because it is that much more work to open them again, hard on the fingers. They don't get tangled, I just dump out a few at a time when I'm basting, no problems.

I leave the safety pins open. I found an old tin in an antique store that says "Sewing Machine Accessories" and keep them stored in that.

I also keep mine closed in an old tin that used to hold tea bags.

I've been thinking about buying the covers for a long time but always wondered if they were worth it. Now that I have all the good feedback from you ladies, I think I'll buy them next time I'm at my LQS.

I USE A SMALL LOCK-N-LOCK CONTAINER AND I LEAVE THEM CLOSED. I TRIED LEAVING THEM OPEN BUT IT WAS A MESS.

My DH made me an open box to make it easier to grab one. I always leave them closed so I don't get stabbed. If I'm transporting them, I stretch a medical type glove over the box and it holds them all in.

Closed in a small mason jar.

I keep mine closed in a little purse. It was a demo for a Fendi and it is so cute. Little girl size. I just dump them out when I need them.
