That's funny because I have the same problem, always think of a dirty sewer cover instead of a gal who sews.

I made a pin cushion out of small checked material (approx 4" x 8"). I line my pins up in rows. They're always open, and easy to grab. I tried putting them in a container but got stuck, ouch!

I store mine in a glass jar with some silcone packets in the bottom.

I have collected large white pop top plastic medicine containers and write the contents on the top. Safety pins "always" stored closed. :thumbup:

By the way - I am a diabetic and sticking my finger could create a problem. I said COULD, not WOULD, so I take precautions and keep those babes closed.

Same here. I've been a fanatic about closing safety pins ever since I had children in case one of them found one and swallowed it. I practice this still because of my cat. And they are much easier to handle because they don't get tangled.

I keep mysafety pins in contains that my DH got at Harbor Freight that are used for nuts and bolts and washers. They stack onto one another. I keep them under my sewing machine
And one I place my binding clips. I leave both pins and clips open. Since I have MS it is easier not to open and close them . When I use them I just shake them onto my quilt and start pinning. As my little brother says "different strokes for different folks." We each find our nitch. Happy quilting!

I have a plastic pencil box that holds the majority of my OPEN safety pins, I get tired of closing them when I pin baste, let alone closing them again after the quilt is finished. They do get tangled, but I just grab a bunch of them, shake them over the quilt and pick them up that way. I just shake, rattle and roll those little suckers into my quilt, but then I'm weird and have a warped sense of humor lol.
