I leave mine open in a plastic container with a couple of those little bags that come in medicine bottles so they won't rust.

I close mine up and put a bunch on another pin to keep them together.

Store closed (hurts too much when poked and I don't want to bleed on my fabric) in a pottery jar I made myself in pottery class. It is tall enough but not overly, deep enough, and has a heavy bottom so t won't tip over. I keep a samll packet of silicone in the bottom of it to absorb amy moisture that may be in the air.

Right now I am using a zip-loc bag to hold my open safety pins. It does help me when I am basting my quilt. I did go to the web-site, but for the life of me, I have no idea how those things attach to the pins. I am also looking for a safe way to store the pins. I have read some good ideas on this post and will be trying some of them out!

they are open, and in a small plastic bin...i just shake them apart when i need them...

For anyone who has pets, dumping out any kind of pin out before using is not a good idea and storing safety pins open isn't either. We have to be extra careful when we have furry family members we love.
Even as careful as I try to be, I have caught our little Penny running around with a straight pin in her mouth on more than one occasion. I say to her "What have you got?" And the jubilation leaves her expression, is replaced by an "Aw...Crap!" kind of look, then she drops it on the floor for me to see. I was pretty horrified the three times it was a straight pin.

Humans have to watch out too. My mom was a sew-er. I always hesitate to write "sewer" ;). She used to regularly lose straight pins in the shag carpeting. My Dad's foot always found them. Ouch!

I store mine open in a wooden box that my oldest DS made for me in junior high shop, he's now 42 years old. I love that wooden box and every time I use it I think of him as a young boy bringing it home to his mom.

I store mine closed in a plastic boulion jar. Removed label and wrote quilting pins on the jar.
