That's EXACTLY how I started and finished my sampler quilt, I made about 20 blocks in the end, as my skills improved I found I went 'off' some of my first attempts, I didn't think any further than each block at a time, so I was never daunted!!
Here's a picture of the finished quilt, no pattern used and still on my bed after two years!! |
Sew what you like and forget the police.
Since it is a sampler and you sound like you are new to this I would suggest starting with blocks without a lot of pieces and work your way to the more difficult ones. (quilterscache marks them according to difficulty) Do you have colors picked out? Sometimes a sampler is different blocks with coordinating fabrics but can also be the same block with different fabrics. With yours going to be king-size don't forget to allow for sashing which can also help if the block sizes are slightly different. Good luck.
