Imagine you are making a quilt for his grandad or dad. Patterns they would like.

I started a scrappy star quilt as a Leader/Enders project that I saw here on the QB...it may be a BH pattern.

When in doubt, I make star quilts - Ohio Star or Sawtoothed Star. Maybe bright batiks on a black background? My son (age 34) still has his baby quilt which was just a rainbow of half-square triangles.

Square or Rectangle Blocks are more masculine than any blocks made with Curves or circles.. So are Stripes or Triangles and Plaids.... Flying Geese, would make a Great Quilt too. You could make them any size ... Shades of Darker Blues, rusts, brick and Brown, Taupe. and Beige, darker Greens like Forest or even a Sage Green, No Flowers in the prints. Maybe a few Creams or Golds to lighten it up. I don't care for Blacks and Grays...unless its a Amish Style Quilt. Hope this helps...Can't wait to see finished Quilt.. What a Labor of Love as a Keepsake..

A few years ago I made a bento box in browns that might fit your dilemma. You could make a log cabin in blues or browns too! Good luck dear. I'll be facing the same issue soon. Initially I made a map of the US with each state in different fabric, but the mama didn't like it. So, I'm going to keep it and hang it on a wall! Maybe even have it up for the baby shower that will be at my home in a few weeks!

I understand your question. I make baby quilts for nieces and nephews children with the same idea in mind. I make any pattern I want and use any color pattern I want. Who says that a baby quilt must be in pastels and be covered with little baby animals? Well, it can be but it there is no rule that says it must! I have made quilts that are turquoise, colors of the brown, orange, yellow pallet and others that are black/white/red. Some times the moms ask for a color choice but most just do not. Bottom line, give the beautiful gift that you wish. I like the idea of choosing a favorite pattern and bless this little one with a warm snuggle from you.

I am particular to half-square triangles, light and dark in the barn raising arrangement. HST makes a good use of scraps and can be arranged is just so many different ways! Have fun and snuggle this little boy with your quilt and get a picture of you, child and quilt together. It may be a memory maker!

The hedge Hog quilt I just made for my now 18 month old grandson.

All the quilts posted are owned by males. No. 3 and No. 7 I made for my sons when they were little boys and they are now 16 and 14. The no. 1 quilt is owned by my 27 yr old son.
