I belong to two guilds and haven't seen anyone sew shoeless at sew days or workshops. At different sewing retreats (very casual) I go to I haven't seen anyone sewing without shoes. Interesting that so many posters here sew barefoot.

For a long time, I sewed with shoe off because I could only wear sneakers. I finally found a pair of shoes that fit (fat feet with high instep) that didn't cost an arm and a leg and can now sew again with shoes! I have diabetes now and stepping on pins just ain't the thing to do.

Can not stand shoes as they are confining, so just wear socks around the house and Birkenstocks sandals if I go out.
I go barefoot as well!
I am a shoes on most of the time.
I am always barefoot when I am indoors, so I sew barefooted.
Socks, I hardly ever go bare foot!
Shoeless here too. :D
I sew with my slippers on. I can't seem to put enough pressure on the foot pedal without it. Also, I drop pins and don't want one going into my foot.

I am also a barefoot (or at the least with socks on) sewer. But
always wear slippers indoors and slip one off for sewing. Being diabetic my Dr. drums it into my head that I must NEVER be without shoes even indoors because if I got cut, stepped on a pin/needle or hurt my feet that it could be much more harmful to me. If your not diabetic (or are familiar about diabetes) if we get cut or injured it is very likely going to take longer to heal, and if you have neuropathy (also known as nerve damage) to any part of your feet (and toes) than if you got injured you wouldn't feel it. As for me I DO have a small amount of neuropathy in my toes. |
