Show off your I-spy pics..( I'm looking for ideas for donated I-spy quilts..)

I am a lucky member of Yosamitesa's monthly swaps and I have accumulated A LOT of I-spy squares over this past year.. Now I am drawing a blank on what to do with my squares.. Ive searched online, thru block patterns and nothing jumps out at me... I can do the regular sew them all together one after another but Id like to have some more 'UMPH' to it of you get what I mean...

I have lots of these:

4x4
5x5
5.5x5.5
6x6
7x7
and 10.5x10.5 from MY monthly swaps...

Id like to see pics of what your I-spy Quilts look like.. I make alot of donated quilts (toddler/lap) so id like something not to difficult as Id like to continue to make one a week if at all possible.. and to dwindle my squares.. I only have soooo much space.. Id prefer to keep the size of my I-spy squares as-is, honestly I really don't want to cut them down.. so patterns that use the above sizes would be AWESOME.

Any suggestions, links, or freebie patterns would be GREATLY appreciated.. But most of all Id LOVE LOVE LOVE to see your pics..

Here's hoping this thread goes forth and multiplies as the Scrappy Quilt thread has ... now at over 100 pages! :)

I too am looking for ideas ... and a photo show here would be the ultimate!
Thanks for starting this, LuvTooQuilt!!

No pictures but look for a Disappearing 9 patch I-spy. I just helped my sister make one and it is cute as a button.

I've not yet tried posting a picture on the new board - here goes.

I selected 3 but only got this one
As you can see I created circles and appliqued onto backgrounds of the recipients' favorite colours. (I made lap quilts for 7 good friends) I chose novelties that related to the friend's life.
Clearly, a Red Sox fan who eats Chinese. The rectangle is her granddaughter.

If you do a D9P make sure to position the corner squares so as to be in the same direction when reassembled

I am about to start some of these quilts too. I think I will sash all my locks, but would love to see a quilt show for inspiration!

cowgirlquilter 01-10-2012 02:23 PM

I do not know exactly where it is at, but in the Member swaps thread, people were making what looked like "jars" and they would put "bug" fabric or animal fabric....they were really cute. I know this isnt much help, but it was adorable....

I would post but I cant post pics on this new board ....made a snowball I spy.

Here is one I just made for my 9 month old great nephew. When I asked my niece to photograph it for my records, she got it at such an angle I'm not sure you can tell that I sashed the blocks with yellow and then applied large red rickrack over the sashing. The bright striped border was just perfect for this quilt, and, I already had it on hand.

:) It was really much cuter than the picture portrays.

Here are two

I made two - the first was a large snowball using squares from a swap plus my own, and the second was a pinwheel using the cut off corners from the snowballs I made.

luvTooQuilt 01-13-2012 09:51 AM

I love all of them...

I really like the idea of the attic windows.. They showcase the sqs very nicely.. Nice job..

I sure hope we see more pics ..

I only have one for which there are photos. I used the "Two at a time: Reversible Quilts" book to make it. Features Eye Spy on one side and Mickey Mouse on the other.

This I Spy quilt was made for my 87 year old dad, kid at heart. I made it for his 86th birthday. I don't know who enjoys it more, my dad or my mom, but both enjoy looking over the fabrics and cuddling under it while reading on the sofa.

I can imagine a quilt like that with only one of each sq then having to find its 'match' HST...

That is a great I spy tutorial. Thanks for sharing. I have lots of fabric and will make at least two maybe three. This will definitely be one of them.

She's just too good, isn't? See... she's wily. She gets us hooked & then shows us what to do with our fabric booty... LOL! And I love it!

Here's the quilt from my Avatar.

I made it for a work colleague's son.

The I Spy quilts are fabulous ! I'm still collecting novelty prints for mine.

gollytwo 05-11-2012 02:34 AM

Someone on the Board awhile back showed how to piece the 9-patch so that when you cut and reassemble all the corner focus/novelty fabrics are upright; that is, the dog/boat etc is not upside down or sideways.

I need to look that up because that's why I've never made a DP9... I'm too OCD to have my stuff upside down... LOL!

Ooooooh... this is fabulous! I would have never been sharp enough to think of a nifty setting like that! Thanks for sharing it with us!

My favorite is the "I Spy" with the hexagons - unfortunately I don't have any photos because I have given them to the small children for whom they were made. One was with 3 inch hexagons and the other was 5 inch. Since I did fussy cutting each one it was a lot easier to do the 5 inch. When there was still MLB fabric available I did one with all the teams for my daughter. But it is on her couch and no picture available. The children's quilts I used red for the triangles and it really made them pop.

The way to layout your I spys for a disappearing 9 patch so they stay in the direction you want is contained in the link posted earlier"

http://obsessivelystitching.blogspot...ring-nine.html

If the link doesn't work just search the blog.

For some, like the square in a square, I did not have as great a variety of prints so I used FQ.
