Your star is stunningly beautiful. I think the bubbles are pretty but your quilting will hide in them. You might consider the lighter fabric for the next round and quilt with a darker thread that pulls the color or colors from the star. By so doing you create a continuation of color and give an opportunity to complement the star. Maybe, even a multi-shaded thread in a thirty weight. Could you use the pretty bubble fabric in the binding?

Both are nice...I like A the best...like the way the beige brings out the color in the stars. Beautiful star!
I have to admit that I like the first one best, it seems to make the medallion stand out more to me.
I like the beige the best. The other fabric is pretty but takes away from the center
I like the first one best.
I really like the 2nd one. It makes the colors pop.

I really like 2, it "pops" nicely.
I also like 2 and the light blue color behind it goes perfectly!! Maybe the beige for the binding. |
do not like number 2 it takes away from the star
Number 2 is my choice, but like I just wrote in another thread, pick the one your eyes keep going back to.
I like the first option, it gives more of a rest so that the star stands out and I think it makes the middle paisley fabric of the lone star sections pop out.
I like the fabric in b but think a will pop (as they say) yor star better. But that's just me
I like the first one!!
I love option B. However if you choose the beige then you could use the circle fabric for the border.
I like the first option. Option B seems too busy or active for me. But... in the end it is your choice. You have the vision for the finished quilt and I do not.
Option A has my vote.
I vote for the FIRST one.
I love the whimsy of the multicolored "bubbles" but my eyes go there first. In the plainer beige option, my eyes go to your gorgeous piecing first, which IMHO is where the attention should be focused.
I like busy, so number 2 is my choice! :) It makes the whole quilt light, airy, and FUN!
I like option B. The first one does make the star stand out more, but it isn't as interesting to look at. It would also depend on what other fabrics are going to be used in the quilt.

The reason I prefer the first one, A, is because the piecing in the star is intricate and really wonderful; I feel the "bubble" background takes attention away from this. That bubble fabric is adorable for another context, maybe even on the back of your quilt where it won't compete so much with that star design.

I agree, the first one.

Yep, the first one for sure.

Quilting ALWAYS shows up more on a fabric that is solid or reads solid. If you want a place for fancy quilting then you need to go with A. The beige is tonal and reads solid and will be a wonderful backdrop to showcase fancy quilting. That said, a solid or a fabric that reads solid, such as choice A, will also show any wobble or mistake so you need to be confident in your fancy quilting skills or have a good LAQ.
I still like B best...but I agree that if you want a platform for fancy quilting it probably isn't the better choice. (But I still prefer it!)

I would go with Option B It is brighter and much more cheery and would pull it all together better.

I would go with the first one, or even continue with the white, to me that would make the Mariner's block "POP" so they could shine. Although the second has the colors from the block, it detracts from the block so it doesn't "POP", JMHO. The block is absolutely gorgeous by the way, keep up the good work.
I like the first one. Seems to flow better.
I vote for A as well
the first one is the best choice.
The original was "nice," but this new Beige option screams: "Stunning!"
Going with the first one :) (also picturing a gorgeous double border using that beige pattern in the spikes (narrow), and the navy (outside wider border)...just sayin :)) |
I like them both but the beige one does bring out the individual colors of the star points better.
I like the second one best but elaborate quilting won't show up as well on the print. Still I think it makes a more interesting quilt.
I like option 1 also. You want that star to shine
Option A looks best to me.
i like the 2nd one.
I like the first one, I think the 2nd one is too busy and draws your eyes away from the star.
I like the first one, too. I like the fabric in Option B--it's very pretty--but just not where you're auditioning it. I agree with quiltin-nannie that the beige makes the other colors pop and that the other is too busy and takes away from your stars.
HUMMMMM interesting. I really like the second one. I pulled both up on my screen stepped back and look at it. the star really stands out on the second one. Nice job.
I think the first one pops the star out more. I like that one.
I like A. I think the star should be the "star" of the project.
